Bobby- check out the 'report a bad company here' thread about Covenant, that will tell you a lot about them. I drove for them for a year, so I can give you a very realistic view of the company.

First off, plan on being out with your trainer for five weeks, so about six weeks from when you leave the house (to go to Chattanooga) you can get back home. After your training period is over, you will test out to be upgraded to 30 day team status, and you will do the dumb and dumber team for at least 30 dispatched (driving) days. When that is over you can either stay teamed up or go solo OTR, hometime will be ONE day off for every seven dispatched days.
Training pay is around 13 cpm (for all miles the truck drives), then when you upgrade they are supposed to have started paying some bonus, teaming you wwill get around 19.5 cpm (for all miles) and solo pay varies depending on the length of haul (it's on a sliding scale, and regional/dedicated fleets have slightly different pay scales). They will also reimburse you $125/mo for driving school.
Good luck if you choose to go with them, like I said I put in my year and am glad to be elsewhere, but your experience could be very different. But make sure to read the thread about some of the shenanigans they try and pull, it will help you make an informed decision.

From what I have read on these forums, I would say unemployment would beat them. Check the DAC section here. Former employees comments in there about the company I think you will find helpful.

I has been a year since I drove for them, but as far as I know, they haven't got any autoshifts.

If you need to keep gaining CDL experience, and have no expectations on being treated decently, or making any money, then this outfit could work. But they are one hell of a sh!tty company, from the top to the bottom.

I quit Covenant in 2004.

If they haven't changed since I quit, then they're (still) a company that will happily lie, mislead, and stab drivers in the back if that's what it takes to help "the Covenant family."

IF IF IF Covenant is the only company that will take you (and I doubt this - call around to a few other companies and I bet you'll get offers) then my advice is to plan on working for them for about six months. Grit your teeth, take their ####, and after you've got half a year of good road experience start applying to other companies again.

Good luck, and I sincerely hope you wind up with a better company than Covenant.

Covenant Transport

Just got out of School, I went to the C1 Truck driver training program through Drivers solutions, My opinoin it wasn't bad at all i went in with little knowing about the job and left wilh a 105 on my pre-trip from state and only got 3 points taken away from my road test and 2 on my skills test. I graduated from my class a week early due to me knowing how to operate a truck, i worked in a stone pit and ran Dump trucks around alot but no experience on the open road. Anyways they are supposed to get you a job with 1 of the 4 companys being Star, USA, P.A.M., and Averitt. Needless to say they couldnt get my in with any of them and i found this out my second week in school. So i had to send apps to companys on my own while in school, i found only 1 company that would take my app due to 2 decresionary suspensions in 10 years. No DUI at all. Now stuck with a $6,300.00 bill. I got in with Covenant Transport i head out for training on Monday the 27th. I heard alot of bad things about them but me only being able to get one carrier respond im gonna just stick out the year till i get some miles and experience under my belt. Is there anything i should know about b4 i take that bus ride down there any info would help me alot. Thanks in advance.
