Well, I don;t have first hand knowledge, but I've heard some not to good things about them. But it depends on what you personally are willing to put up with as a driver. Some people may be experienced drivers & used to doing things a certain way and not happy with the way PTL does things. Better in ways to figure out things on your own. The auto transmissions can be good in ways for new drivers who are not good at shufting. As long as they hold up & not break down often.

I worked for them from 9/2008 - 10/2008. My husband and I were a team and he was my trainer...bad choice. Although I do love my husband I didn't like the fact that they ran us as a team. Leaving me to drive "by myself" while hubby slept. The company gave us good miles but I was brand new and not confident in driving while he slept. I love the auto-shift and really do miss driving now that I am off the truck. Hoping to get back into it somehow or other.

Now about the Murray yard...forget about getting out of there in a hurry...it ain't happening. You use to get out of the West Memphis yard much quicker but my hubby was there the other day just to get a light fixed on his trailer and was there ALL day..UGH!!

Hubby's miles suck right now...his pay check last week was $4.50..that is right $4.50 for being out all week. I think he did get one $50 advance, but heck he has to eat.

I can't complain to much about PTL other than the miles right now. Miles are down everywhere. My hubby has an AWESOME dispatcher. We have found that if you go along with what they give you, you can pretty much get good miles. Usually, as with any company, the teams get the good miles.

Well thought I would add my opinion.

Happy Truckin' Everyone...Keep it between the white lines!!!!

THE TRUTH IS THAT PTL MAY BE ONE OF THE WORST COMPANIES TO WORK FOR. THIS WAS NOT SO YEARS AGO. FORGET MAKING MONEY WITH THESE GUYS! SOME DRIVERS DO, MOST DON´T. THUS THE VERY HIGH TURN OVER RATE! THE STAFF TREATS DRIVERS LIKE THEY ARE A BOTHER. IN THE SEVERAL YEARS I WAS WITH THEM I NEVER MET THE OWNER. HE DOSE NOT HAVE AN OPEN DOOR POLICY! NOR DOSE HE EVEN HAVE A DRIVER RELATIONS REP! WHAT DOSE THAT TELL YOU?:biggrin_25511:MMMMM... HE BOUGHT OUT OTHER COMPANIES. YET, FAILED TO INVEST IN APU´S TIL RECENTLY. THEY EXPECT YOU TO FREEZE IN THE WINTER AND BAKE IN THE SUMMER!:biggrin_25510: BECAUSE YOU BETTER NOT IDLE THE TRUCK TO BE COMFORTABLE WHEN YOU SLEEP!:biggrin_2555: THEY WILL HARRASS YOU ABOUT IT AND FIRE YOU!:biggrin_2552: IT TAKES A FIGHT TO GET ANYTHING DONE THERE. THAT´S WHY DRIVERS DON´T BOTHER TO GET A TIRE FIXED. IT CAN TAKE YOU 5 HOURS TO GET A RESPONSE FROM ROAD MAINT!:biggrin_25516: GETTING HOME WAS ALSO A BIG PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH I LIVE NEAR THE BROWNSVILLE TX YARD!:biggrin_2555: IT WAS AS IF TX FELL OFF THE #### MAP! I MISSED DOCTORS APPTS, BIRTHDAYS AND OTHER IMPORTANT EVENTS EVEN THOUGH I GAVE THEM MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME. IF BETTER, WHEN YOU QUIT, THEY WON´T EVEN ASK WHY!:biggrin_25511: BECAUSE THET DON´T GIVE A ####! IF YOU SIT IN THE DRIVER´S LOUNGE IN MURRAY YOU WILL HERE THE SAME STORY NO MATTER WHAT DAY OF THE WEEK OR FROM WHO IS THERE. PTL JUST DON´T CARE. WHEN KATRINA HIT I WITTNESSED A PHONE CALL IN WHICH PTL WAS ASKED IF THEY WOULD DONATE A TRUCK TO HAUL WATER TO THE VICTIMS. THE RESPONSE BT THE MANAGER WAS ¨NOT FOR FREE¨ THAT´S THE KIND OF PEOPLE THEY ARE! REAL CHRISTAIN AMERICANS LOL:biggrin_25512: SO THERE YOU HAVE IT! IT WOULD BE BETTER IF YOU RAN THOUGH HELL WITH DRAWS DRENCHED IN GASOLINE THAN DRIVE FOR PTL!

    tou got to be crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you will be sorry!!! 2 classes of 20 to 30 drivers per week for 50 weeks for orientation.... That´s 20x2=40 x 50=2000 drivers per year for about 950 trucks!! 2000 x10 yrs = 20,000 drivers!! They go through drivers like crap through a duck!!!!!!!!!!!!! The numbers don´t lie!!!

May have changed since I left less than 3 yrs ago. Go to orenitation. $600 on comm card. Asign with driver to train for x number of miles changes each month it seems. Or you can test out if you think you are ready to run by yourself. Testing is simple! But if need experinece, GO WITH A TRAINER! A loaded truck # 65 mph hitting a inlice of 6% with winds and fog is the wrong time to figure out can you handle this thing or not! I live in Texas. Never got to go there except maybe 3 times and one of those was home time to get suff for my truck. Started out great down south long runs crazy routingdown some back roads when I could have gone main roads but did not have the experince to play the system to my advantage. Sent on run up north kept me up there doing short runs miles dropped to about 6-650 week, Lots running and swapping trailers. Forced to work over hours when you told them you were out and needed a reset on hours. Kept them burnt. Call saftey like the say that's it You get no more home time or good loads. Great place to learn. Makes your next job seem like a dream! I listen to my drivers complain and I just laugh to myself thinking you have no idea what you got here. I see A PTL truck coming in my yard, I say to the others watch this"hey driver when is your last day? The best positive answer was 3 more months because that will make my year and they promised me a bonus! I hope he got it. Everyone else was this is my last run or 2 weeks and the like. Bad companies make you appercaite the good ones. Make your own choice! This may be your GOLDEN job!

Forgot to mention. The trucks are nice though. Not really auto matic just auto shift. Just like a ten speed but you hav no clutch. can switch with hand switch on steering columon or put in 10 and let the truck shift for you at all the sweet spots. Great for traffic jams.

I drove for PTL for some time. I sent Randall W the owner several e-mails explaining how bad the treatment was of his drivers. It appears they have changed their web site saying they respect their drivers. I almost fell out of my chair! I am a fair man. I bent over backwards but they just bent me some more!! These are not good people. Don't waste your time at PTL. You will be broke, and stressed out.

You have to go to a truck stop and talk with experienced drivers to find out about a company. PTL has one of the worst reputations on the road. They have to fill their trucks somehow so they hire students. think about it... If you own a trucking co. would you not want the best drivers with experience possible? PTL has 2 classes a week of 20-40 drivers x 50 weeks = 2000 - 4000 drivers per year. That's to fill about 950trucks. :biggrin_2555:What more do you need to know ?:biggrin_2552:

Don't get me started on the students training students thing. They have stopped that finally but only at the expense of two students lives. I had only been there for two weeks when I found out that two students went over the side of a mountain and were killed. How awful!!! Do not go to this company!!!!

The main reason I quit was due to the fact that they were running us as a team truck and I was fresh out of school with no experience. They had my husband training me. He and I got along fine but I was scared to death when he would lay down and try to sleep. Never go to a company who wants to train you that way. BAD BAD Idea!!!

My hubby is still with the company but the only reason he is still here is because of the bad economy and not many companies are hiring right now.

Like I said if you like to eat and pay bills please go to another company.

Just my opinion. Thanks for listening and Happy Driving!!!

If you new drivers want to really det the scoop on PTL go to the truck stops and talk to the drivers. this site is good to a point. But so many drivers are not on the internet. Many don´t have computers. Though that is changing. Talking directly with the drivers will give a more in dept look at PTL or any other company. I drove for PTL for a long time. Don´t waste your time with them.

This is proof that PTL dose not care about their drivers. PTL is a den of vipers!

Auto shift trucks also dimminish your shifting skills. They are like velcro sneakers.... they make us dumb and lazy.
