Hello, realize it might be a longshot since its a small company but figured I'd try. Company name is northeast demolition out of middleboro mass. It seems according to their website they do demolition obviously due to the name but are also doing some regional/otr. they want me to do some otr, as you might have already read in my other thread this is the job I just got last week. I'm supposed to be leaving sunday or monday heading to florida, figured maybe by some chance I can get a little bit more info on the company before I'm on 95 with my door closed and the hammer down. Thanks in advance.

Hey - sometimes small companies aren't bad at all. I've worked for a few small companies, and had great experiences - nice equipment (Peterbilt 379's), really good hourly wage, 5am start - 3pm(ish) back in the yard.....

The only major downside to smaller companies, in my opinion - they are the first to feel the strain from the poor economic conditions, winter slow down (in the northeast), etc.; meaning your chances of getting layed off are pretty good.

Anyway, I'm from Mass as well; what will you be hauling OTR for a demolition company?

Good luck in any case dude!

Yeah definitely - you may really like it; or at the very least use it towards experience, and then if a better opportunity arises, you'll have plenty of experience to go where ever.

Driving jobs in Mass seem to be few right now, or atleast in my area.

Ain't that the truth. That's what happened to my golden opportunity. Oh well, time to adapt to the situation.

Things are slow in NH too. I'm thinking of getting my MA hydraulics license, thinking it might help with finding work in the future. Any thoughts since you guys are from Mass? Tips too, if you've taken the test.

Good luck with the new job, MassHole. [to be honest, it's strange not using that phrase as an insult.]

Hey KO1927 - have you checked out Craigslist? They have WAY more CDL A opportunities posted in NH compared to MA.

Yup here too - I worked primarily in construction trucking - i.e. dump trailer, flat bed, equipment moves; construction was booming during the early to mid 2000's in the Boston area with the big dig and Logan Airport, now the bulk of it is done, and it's really slowing down around here.

I thought about getting a hydraulics or hoisting license myself, but haven't up to this point.

Yeah, I check NH, MA, and ME craigslist, several newspapers, and the "Jobs in _ _" sites.

My issue is experience, I've got right next to nothing. That was the golden opportunity to learn the trade. Most of the trucking around here seems to be tied to construction.

I took a job in a warehouse, so I'm able to get by, just a little sidetrack on my career path.

I've seen a few ads for companies in the southern tier of NH that ask for the MA hydraulics license, that's why I figured it would open doors.

    Thanks.
