I drove for this company for 12 years and was layed off after a route restructure. In the beginning,it was great.I drove out of a satellite location,so I never had to deal with other backstabbing drivers that will throw you under the bus just for the fun of it.
Be prepared to have the points racked up on your license, because they won't repair the equipment violations unless the truck is flat brokedown or put out of service. It's US MAIL,so its "GOTTA GO! REGARDLESS IF YOU ARE NOT LEGAL TO DRIVE OR THE EQUIPMENT!"
This company was #11 on the list of USPS contractors for 2010, at just under 104,000,000 dollars in contract revenue, but one would think any operating expenses was directly withdrawn from managements personal bank account.Typical trucking company standard operating procedure.
Hauling mail is just about the 'creme de la creme' as far as driving jobs go, mostly 100% no touch, unless you are on a P&D,but no good deed goes unpunished, and politics will more than makeup for the lack of physical exertion.
The checks never bounce, pay is good, but make sure you watch your back!

I was given a go ahead on this load from Woburn MA to Robbinsville NJ as a rush job at about 1:45PM on Friday to be delivered on Saturday. The person’s name was Ned who verbally authorized me to go start traveling towards Woburn MA from my originating point which was Ayer MA. I was asked to provide him with my interstate authority and insurance and w-9 and three references, which were provided promptly. The rate for transportation was negotiated at its minimum possible for this area $450 for 314miles from Ayer MA to Woburn MA and unload at Robbinsville NJ. His manipulating expertise wanted me to do this load for $425, so he calls me right before I get near the pickup location during the traffic hours to ask me to see if I could give him more references. ( How many brokers do this kind of non-sense) I pulled over on Rout 3 near exit 27 to talk to him, he want me to give him more references before the load now. Under no circumstances you could do that while you are in Boston’s traffic at the rush hour on a Friday afternoon. It might be his attempt to renegotiate the load to a better price or something else. But the bottom line is this broker has breached our verbal contract. My question is that is it normal with these brokers? is this a good company work with?

MC of A has good and bad. The bad is they steal money from the contracts. They were just investigated for 5 years by the Arkansas Dept of Labor. While not all of the drivers will be reimbursed for the lost money, some will. Most of the problems came about when the Union was in there. The management punished the drivers. The Union is gone, now, and the company is being bought out by someone else, AGAIN. They were making the guys lay over and take unnecessary breaks in order not to pay them. There was also an issue with matching the contribution to the 401k. That was resolved several years ago, but waiting, supposedly, on the final determination of the DOL determination. The NLRB said they have to pay...when is the only question. However, it is steady work, and not the worst conditions. Don't get used to driving the same truck every night. They will assign you one, and when you get there, one of the dispatchers will have sent it on a trip.

Oh yeah... The insurance, which you cannot decline unless you are covered elsewhere, is very expensive. They are telling you they are matching some of the cost--but they aren't. It runs 150 -200.00/week. If you know that COBRA is more expensive than your regular insurance, then when you are out of work and it costs the exact same thing, you know that they aren't putting a dime toward the premium. That happened to us. My husband was out sick for three months. When the COBRA kicked in, the premium was 697.00 a month. Basically the same as what he was having deducted from his paycheck weekly for insurance. So, if you don't mind being forced to take insurance that costs too much, and being screwed out of money they owe you for your time, it isn't such a bad place to work.

I actually had a very good experience when working with MC of A. The pay was excellent and most of the people out of Winnemucca Nevada or awesome drivers and coworkers. I think some of the supervisors could have been a little better but all in all the pay was good and my experience with the company was good.

Where else have you been a driver? Maybe you could share your experiences at those companies. There are threads covering hundreds of companies on here. Might help other drivers.
Or will this be your one and only post?
