Werner..

So I just graduated from Transport Tech yesterday (top of my class). I have my CDL and I'm on my way to Werner in a couple days (Aug. 21st.)..

Is Werner good to start out with? if not, what is a good company that will train me? Who is the best company out there that will hire a 21 yr old driver?

Thanks to anyone that answers,

Rob ~

Re: Going to Werner..

Dont jump into bed with the first company. Do a little research on the different forums on Werner and check them out better......Look into CFI,Roehl,Crete-------------Crete is a good company....Wonderman

Thanks for that info..

A friend of mine drove for Shaffer (a sister company of Crete), and loved it. He recommended them too, but the only problem is, they want at least three years experience - in other words they don't accept fresh out-of school rookies like myself.

Thanks again,

Rob ~

Re: Going to Werner..

Wonderman is correct, do some research. the companies he mentioned are good starters, good carriers. I have a friend that drives for CFI and has for years. She won't be leaving any time soon. Good luck to you.

Dont jump into bed with the first company.

i can only "somewhat" agree with that statement. i have personally witnessed some new students "playing the game of let me see who else will be interested in me", and they lost a job as no other trucking company displayed any interest, or another trucking company hired on drivers with either higher grades, better attendance, or willinglness to go over the road, or just plain ol' "first come-first served" applications...........

its not a game i would whole -heartedly play at this time, right out of the starting gate. once an application is made, and a job offer is presented, the "new" student driver should indeed "jump" right onto it. there's no telling if an application will be accepted elsewhere's, and then you're jobless, with a student loan to pay off.

plus, the longer anyone waits to "play the game", the longer it'll be that you'll be driving, making it possible that another company will make you go back to school for several days (or weeks) to be re-trained, as you haven't been on the road.

play "that game" only when you have several years of experience like me.........18, and counting...........

Pro, what's up with you?

Hey, Pro, are you still thinking of going with Werner? I still believe that's a good deal for you. Ugly paint scheme on the trucks, but dedicated runs & higher pay more than make up for it, eh?

And that means one thing
It means she's slow
It's a typical company truck
It's just all show and no go

I'm gettin' passed by Yella
And even Overnite
I'm gettin' passed by ever' body in sight
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

No, my hometown's nowhere in sight
And if you think I'm pissed off
You're right
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

Love pissing off those trucking company insiders.

Re: Going to Werner..

No comments on Werner, but if you are comfortable with them, go with them and get some experience.Almost all trucking cos.are looking to hire drivers,so you are not tied to one co.You just might decide to stay with Werner.Good luck
