I've been out of the LS system since February but unless things have changed your better off with the flat, IMO van rates suck at LS...

Most of the time you can do better on rates with a flat rather than a van.

If you're already a BCO, why wouldn't you just change your trailer selection to van this week on the load board as well as your load alerts and see what kind of volume and rates are in the area you want to run? Since your getting what, 73% right now, are you going to be happy with 65% and less gross revenue? You have the tools at your disposal which will give you a far more data and answers to your question than any current or former BCO can here.

You must be in a pretty good van area then. Whenever I've pulled rates for vans, as I routinely look for new opportunities, they've been pretty weak compared to platform. On top of that, dropping to 65% made it even worse. It's not worth it to have your own van because of all the drop and hook, unless you have agents feeding you conventions and such. There are some power only van deals at 70%, but they have their own issues as well. Good luck.

J, what do you need per mile? I've got daily flatbed freight, it just depends where you want to go. If you wanted to turn in the FB for a 53' van and run some stuff out of CA to KY for a few months, I could keep you busy. Feel free to PM me and let me know.

If I ever came back to LS it would only be with a flat or SD. I ran a company van for 6 mos back in 2008 and almost went under. And I live in Chicago area, where the rates are the best!!! You won't see much over $1.50 mile to the truck with a van, and that's the high end.
