As an X driver from the past and reunited back in march with CRST, Working as a trainee, me and my trainer spent the night in the Bronx of NY. Why ? The trainer did not have enough money on hand to cross the GW bridge. I offered to pay for the first bridge. We needed to cross two bridges both with tolls going into long island, but after we paid for the 1st bridge the trainer had second thoughts, saying students are not to pay tolls fees. So the trainer said lets just go back and try tomorrow, I keep quiet, once you cross you don't get your money back, and if stuck with out money between the GW bridge and the Frogs or throgs Bridge?, that is the place you will spend the night. The trainer tried to talk the toll operator about going back the way we came but to no avail. A policemen told the trainer he could get money from an ATM in the bronx the next day when light. I was willing to pay for the 2nd bridges also and the trainer could pay me back, but he did not want to do that. So we spent the night in the bronx and made it out the next day, the trainer paid back my money for the first bridge later on. Oh What A Night ! Been across many times top and bottom(can not cross bottom any more-911) in the past but nothing like this.

I've never ventured into NYC without an EZPass. The GWB is $65 cash for a 5 axle truck.
-
Is the old "In through the bottom, out through the top" not a workable deal into NYC anymore? Been so long since I've been there, I'm not sure. -
knowing that outfit, the trainer probably got off the training truck only 2 or 3 months ago himself.

Last time I ran out onto the Island(west babylon) GW cost me $65, Throngs neck cost $45 each way. Hissed me off so bad I have never went back out there. I was grabbing a backhaul of baled trash coming to Amsterdam, Ohio that paid $550. Worthless.
ECU51 Thanks this. -
im glad i dont have to go to newyork i heard to many stories from our hotshot drivers about that place.

When I was with the trainer at CRST, I paid tolls all the time. If I had the money and I was behind the wheel then I paid.
CRST needs to get into 20th century and get EZPass, if their drivers run up tolls that they shouldn't, then the company needs to deal with that driver. Thieves in NYC know which companies use EZPass and which don't. So they know who's carrying cash and who's not.
Honestly, your trainer is a moron, he is supposed to be teaching you trip planning and making sure you have enough money to pay the tolls is part of trip planning.
I'm trying to understand what bridge you had already crossed, if it was the GW they only charge going in not coming out, at least that's they way it was about a year ago, the last time I crossed it.
Sounds like you have previous experience so hopefully you aren't relying on this train to teach you very much. Because he sounds pretty typical for CRST.
I gotta tell ya, your trainers decisions make no sense to me, why anybody would be willing to sit in the Bronx instead of out on Long Island beats me. Not that either one is anything great, but the Bronx? -
If you reach the toll boths and have no money, won't they give you a form to fill out where the toll authority sends you a bill for the toll?

I would be asking for a different trainer if i was the OP.
Sounds like he is riding with an idiot.
