There is a terminal not too far from my house. They seem to be a typical LTL outfit. The equipment looks like garbage, all older day cabs. I dont think the money would be any good, I know its hourly pay but they get away without paying overtime. A better fit for yo would probably be like Con-way, Fed-ex, or one of the bigger name LTL carriers. Hope this help somewhat, not first hand info bt I think I would stay away. But go pick there brain in the interview. Ask whatever you wanna know and make sure the manager doesn't sidestep and answers. Remember, you are also interviewing them. Good luck but be very leery

    American-Trucker Thanks this.

Yep, $15.00 an hour with no overtime pay. Also, when work gets slow you would be the first guy called to not come to work. And you would be lucky to get 50 hours a week on a busy week. Its a good thought but not a wise money making decision.

nothing, which is why im not even sure if i wanna go interview. I like the company i work for, i like flatbedding, i love the money im makeing, but im not in love with living on the road.....but i am in love with money...:biggrin_25523:

I'm just entertianing the idea that a local LTL job might be a better long term option.....but $15/hr doesnt seem like it :biggrin_25513:

now if UPS/FedEX/Conway called me i would take the job....Local Line Haul is what i dream about....

Than get used to $15hr. That is a basic starting point. You will be the bottom of the barrel grunt at any of those companies. It will take time to work up to and bid into a line haul position.

Probably not for an hourly rate job. Remember, the goobermant classifies us as unskilled labor.

One thing I wanted to mention also. Magnum has been hiring in my area for line haul drivers. It might be something to check on in your area. As well as Estes, Central Transport (with the Yellow day cabs).
Have you thought about tankers? They are usually home every night, and some make decent money.
