Considering PGT...does anyone know if the trucks are "take home trucks" ? I am not sure where the nearest terminal is to Detroit.

thought I was sold on watkins and shepard but now considering pgt...
Airborne Thanks this. -
I live near Detroit Michigan, been speaking with Phil, recruiter at PGT...seems to be a str8 shooter. He seems interested because I am just out of school, want to haul flat bed and have a passport and enhanced license for entry in and out of Canada.
What is a quickpass through customs? Is that like NEXUS?
Does PGT run many loads in/out of the Detroit area? thinking realistic home time here.

Hey all, I have a tough choice here and would appreciate some more input from anyone that has knowledge of these two companies. Needto make a decision by Friday Feb 10, 2012.
I had my HPE physical for Watkins and Shepard today, passed all without a problem...feel bad that they spent the money on this because right after I finished up with the physical therapist I got a call from PGT ( a flat bed company out of Pennsylvania) I really want to work flat bed.
Watkins wants me to start Monday Feb 13th and PGT on Feb 20th. I like most of what I hear about both companies.
pro and con, unknowns....
Watkins: pros...
no trainer after orientation
Able to go OTR..all 48 states
Tuition reimbursement
Watkins cons: cons...
no trainer after orientation
lots of "touch freight"
.25 per mile
flat bed not option initially.
No take home trucks, gotta drive to terminal.
Watkins unknown:..
per diem, figured into pay? tax write off? paid to driver?
good trucks? truck shortage? tolls paid?
PGT: pros
paid on percentage basis per load 22 percent to start
FLAT BEDS BABY
no loading and unloading, just securement and tarping.
take home trucks
regional basically...mainly east of mississippi and canada
better pay (so they say)
TWIK and HAZMAT during initial training phase
PGT: cons....
Per diem not really paid to driver, they simply dont tax the last 260.00 of drivers weekly pay...so basically tax on 52.00 dollars a day is about 14.00 dollars..so essentially as a driver you only get credit for 14.00 per day...and lose tax write off...I am not great at math but seems like the driver is getting screwed by these figures????
have to spend four weeks with a trainer.
NO tuition reimbursement.
Any valuable information would be appreciated...need to make my decision by like yesterday....thanks -
I have been offered a position at PGT, does anyone have any input from personal experience here....sounds like a very good company.

and only some of us look good going down the road....
American TruckerAirborne Thanks this. -
I sure as hell don't look good going down the road...
I went from driving this truck
550 cat, 18 speed, nice interior.
to...
a 2010 bare bones 365 pete tri-axle with 8ll and 470hp c13....
BUT I make a whole lot MORE money than I used to...
