been reading the forums and decided on these two companies...not as a 1 year training company, but something more permanent (i hate looking or switching companies).

so, i believe these two are some of the best companies for new and permanent drivers...

it's pretty much crunch time now...schneider just called me today at 4:30pm pst. i dunno how much background checking they do...but...aside from one accident in my lifetime (following behind driver, driver went into the left turn lane, i continued forward, they switched back and hit the rear of my car)...and my record is clean, for everything (driving, lifestyle, maybe even pass that twic thing). i had plans to only apply to schneider, buti #### recruiter from may trucking company jusdt had to come into my school and tell me that they install power inverters for a fee...at least the didn't promise me all that and that gold flows out of thier unicorn's ___.

money's nice, but i have always liked to just cruise and enjoy life...in other words, in don't constantly need loads. single, with old parents, but my sister's close by...but, just in case i plan on getting them that old people collar in case the fall and can't get up (Life Alert?) so, after reading this place, reviewing the DOT website records, etc...i chose these two companies...

so, i don't need to hear the bad stuff about these companies. what i've heard could be disputed by looking up the history or them or any other poster and you can get a feel for whether or not it's justified negativity or not. no...i just want to hear the positive. what's good about both companies.

so what fits me better. to give you more hints about me. i'm a geek so, i will probably get a custom built gaming laptop when i can afford it, definately need that to be connected since it doesn't run on batteries, mentioned my family life (do got a nephew and niece i want to visit on occasion), love to explore and plan on or want to be 48 state plus canada so i can be out for extended periods of time, don't do drugs and only drink when i know i can have more than a 6 pack (just won't drink if i can't enjoy myself)...that's about all i require for now i guess.

if anyone could include whatever else a nerd might need...that would be extremely helpful...otherwise, what would be a better fit?

    schneider or may trucking?

I have worked for both.I would say go with may.the pumpkin doesn't allow inverters unless u have sleep apena.the tractors at may are better than schneider.plus u are a name not a number.the only thing about may is their no idle policy.check on that before you decide on next move..hope that helps

As a former three year driver of the Pumpkin, I can say you will go everywhere, from little bitty towns where there's only enough room for two cows to pass all the way to any of the burroughs in New York City.

Schneider is also involved in almost everything...everywhere. If you don't like van, try intermodal...or oil field...or dedicated. They have lots of jobs all over.

Most of the people are great to work with, but there are a few bad apples in the bunch that will pop up from time to time. Good luck!

I also have worked for both, May has the nicer Trucks and will install the inverter, did not like the idle thing, Schneider has more options for loads and Divisions, miles were about the same at both, worked at May for 6 months, SNI 4 years. Good Luck on your decision

I would say Schneider just because of May's idle policy. I have a real problem with a company charging a company driver to idle the truck to stay comfortable.

I've also worked for both and agree with the other posts here.
May does have nicer trucks and you can use an inverter, they'll make you a deal on a 2000watt unit installed.
SNI has a lot nicer driver facility's at their terminals,May terminals are pretty spartan and the showers aren't very clean and in poor condition while SNI's are as good as the best truck stops.
May is a much smaller company so you May (pun intended) feel more like family but SNI has a lot more opportunity, they do tankers,inter-modal etc while May just has refer 48 states and dry van W11.

I work at May, my brother in law works for Schneider, he was in my truck and thought it was great, and I got one of the older trucks, at SNI you can't have inverters. How ever May's idle time sucks, if you have a fridge,TV, microwave, and gameing consol ect, your gonna have to idle at times to use them.you just have to budget your time. And yes the showers at there terminals are filthy, fontana is gawd awful. After a year at May you get 32 cts a mile, my in law with 14 mos experiance , 6 of them at SNI, gets 34cts a mile. As a starter company I like May, and like their trucks alot, they lease them out when their pushing 500k. May's pretty easy going too. SNI offers more options for hometime, my inlaws on a 2 weeks out 1 week home deal, but they also have your standard 1 day off for each week out. Also more divisions. May offered my inlaw a job but he chose SNI. I think about getting on at SNI but don't like their trucks or no inverter policy.

Mays bennies suck, if you have no medical it's bettrer then nothing, covers 70% of costs. I'm lucky that I got full coverage through my wife. I should of added that my inlaw says alot of the DMs at SNI have driving experiance, not so at May, that goes for the planners too. At May alotta short runs, trailer switchs and long dock times if your western 11. Get some time in and you can be a trainer, thats 10cts more a mile, but sharing a cab with someone else 24-7, count me out.
