I'd like to second that opinion, if I may.

All part of the Knight familys' plan to make sure no driver makes more than $25k per year, I guess!

| Heck I know a Knight driver that has worked for them for 2 years and has never been out longer then 2 weeks. Most of the time she is back home within 10 days. She did however tell me that her terminal in Seattle (Tukwila) seems to have been reduced to a satellite terminal. They have only 2 people left at the terminal. 2 quit and 1 went to NV and 1 to TX and they did not replace anyone. Word is they only call it a terminal because of the Canada fleet that runs out of it. In her 2 years with Knight she has been to CO once, ID 4 times, MT twice, NV 4 times and AZ 6 times. Every other load has pu and delivered between Marysville WA and Palm Desert CA. You want a life outside of trucking ? go to knight. Go somewhere else if your aim is to chase the almighty dollar and live on the road. The change in the hours of service a few years back and the technology upgrades to enforce them have pretty much giving most but a few doing specialized stuff a pay cut.. Most drivers I talk to now days that stay out at least 2 weeks and run irregular route average around 350 to 450 miles a day of driving in a 70 hr week. That means lots of dwell time. Good luck! |

I've been here for four years and am on the way out. I haven't a clue what happened to this once fine company. It has nothing to with my tenure because I do know it is worse for others that have little time with the company. All I do now is WAIT ! It might be a good load it might not be. You better just hope you get a lot of live un/loads as Knight does not have enough trailers coupled with the fact that Knight allows customers to store the freight in the trailers on their property. Here's how you deal with appointments IGNORE THEM ! You go straight to the customer and hand them the bills. I've been doing that since I have been driving and sometimes get lucky sometimes I don't. The bottom line is I work to get ahead in life and this last year it has been real hard to get ahead. Oh the economy is slow ? Well then quit hiring. That pathetic excuse is getting real old. There are enough road worthy legal drivers on the road TODAY that would provide a better return on the dollar if they had the miles to give a flip. Driver retention is not a term used in irregular route trucking and that's a shame. I'd say to go for it if you want to work for Knight. Especially if you seek training and a foot into the door. All these big companies are the same, the individual driver means nothing to them. You might have success you might not there are just to many variables to predict one drivers fate with any company. When I was researching Knight a few years ago these message boards were the same as they are today with all the negative but I did just fine for a long time despite all the disgruntled drivers here on the WWW. | no !!!!!!!!!!!! they were once great now u get no miles but short hopps and God forbid u idle that truck and spend kevin knights money!! |

| Lets add that if you take more then 3 days off you HAVE to give up the truck (slip seating) and any time you get to you house IS home time. regardless of how long you are there.

| No they are not a good place to work ! They believe that lies are the best way to get a driver off the phone. I'm not talking about a belligerent idiot driver yapping about BS either, I'm talking "I've been out two weeks and averaged 215 a day?? What's going on? Can I have a few more miles or maybe just go home?" Don't even say "well that's trucking" IT IS NOT ! You haven't seen anything until you have spent a weekend waiting after delivering a 200 mile load on Saturday morning "Sorry driver we have nothing available." Maintenance is a joke. They have banker hours, they always have trucks ahead of yours even though no one gets any miles. You will never get home unless you threaten to quit and then they'll be calling you after one day asking you take some junk load 200 miles down the road and of course the appointment hasn't been set so you'll wait a day to deliver it. How do you know when a Knight dispatcher is lying ? When their lips are moving. EVERY load is a drop and hook, they will tell you ! No it isn't. They have NO trailers to use yet the terminals are chock full of out of service trailers. The Webasto heaters do not work because Knight only uses three batteries in their trucks. They take the fourth out and stockpile them for spares. Dead batteries are the norm and they do not call road service. You'll have to wait for another Knight driver to come by and jump you. The place is a mess ! A pure mess, no one has a clue whats going AND no one cares really ! Stay away from that place .... far far away ! |
