Does anyone know anything about Daryl Thomason Trucking out of Broken Bow, OK? Just wondering how good they are to work for. How many miles? Pay? Do they really get you home every weekend and sometimes during the week? What is the region they run in? How often do you run outside of that region? Do their trucks have APUs? If not can you idle? Do they take care of their trucks? What are there trucks governed at?

    Any information would be helpful...

I have a neighbor that used to work for 'em for a few years.. He just recently got another job locally in Paris, tx...If I see him this evening, I'll ask him about "em. I would have ask anyway already, but I don't do flatbed. We both live here in the Hugo, Ok. area. I let you know.

I know this thread is almost two years old, but I spoke with John over there at the Broken Bow location. I was interested as well but unfortunately in my case, I don't have enough OTR experience to suit their safety guy. But from what I have seen, they do have nice equipment and they haul in the mid southern region, OK TX, LA, MO, and AR areas although he did say he has a guy that makes a Denver run once a week.

They have two long runs like that. Denver (Actually Gypsum, CO.) and Albuquerque. Both origin at Republic Paperboard in Lawton, Okla. Then reload onsite at destination (American Gypsum) coming back east. I was one of their long haul drivers that made those runs.

John does not make those decisions. He works under Jeff G who in turn is Daryl's right hand man and is chief over safety. Jeff and Daryl do the approval process to hire in with TLC who in turn assigns you to perform services with Daryl Thomason as a client, not an employer.

    I was there a little over a year...Know plenty.

As with any company there are pluses and minuses. They pay 25% of the line haul to the driver. Miles depends on you. Weekend home time at best is a 34hr restart (and yes you'll need it). I live 30 miles from their yard and never had time to stop at the house for a few hours so you can forget that. Nebraska to Houston, Louisiana to Albuquerque with a lot of Oklahoma and Texas.

Their trucks are relatively new Freightliners Cascadias. With 5 minute idle timers, and battery operated APUs that are worthless pieces of excrement. I went 6 months with no AC or climate control while parked. He would have came out better rebuilding the engines in those old Petes and slapping APU's on them. In the year I was there I pulled 5-6 trailers with cracked frames. DOT inspection wet dreams. (Your CSA will get hit.) I once had a trailer with rotten air bags, they refused to make it right...I even offered to take the parts home and install them myself...They refused.

Daryl has a maintenaince shop and a trailer/tire shop...Tom the tire man is about the only decent guy there at that level. The others are fairly worthless. The new freightliners are under warranty and they don't want the down time to have the truck in the shop. Like I said, no AC for 6 months.

Most of their trucks are governored at 72mph. But that depends on who you are. In the year I was there due to repair issues I slip seated 6 trucks. Both Petes and Cascadias...Some were previously issued to long time brown nosers and I inherited several that were turned up into the 80mph range. They try to blame this on rogue drivers in the fleet doing it. But those freightliners were too new for that...It was being done in their own shop.

Thomason has a couple Dry Wall delivery points in Louisiana (Monroe and Lake Charles) But kinda scant on getting reloaded. They do get a reload occasionally right there in Monroe but all Other times I ended up deadheading back up to Nashville (Briar), AR for a reload. The guy in charge of that dry wall yard down in Lake Charles is a total jerk and you have to risk your license to get to the delivery point due to a weight restricted access road. It didn't take long for me to stop electing to take those Louisiana loads.

Basically getting out of Louisiana you would be looking at deadheading out to Pineville, TX or Briar, AR to get reloaded. If you qualify in every other way, that's probably the issue.
