    When Tyson took over IBP, did the old PBX owner operators simply become leased to Tyson? I remember PBX drivers pulled their own trailers.

    Do the over the road, (OTR), truck drivers for Tyson Foods drive standard shifts or automatic transmissions? If they do drive standard shifts, how many speeds or gears are they?

    I've been with them 7 years and like it. Solid outfit. Very consistent. More good days than bad. Have had the occasional bad week or even bad month but never a bad year.

    I've been here at Tyson 4 years, and while it has gone down hill a lot for about the last 2, I still couldn't think of anywhere else to work that would be even nearly as good. My miles are consistent at over 2700 per week which means the pay checks are all over 1100 dollars, sometimes more due to doing it with shorter runs (betwen .03-.06 per mile more.) The benefits are great and come at a reasonable cost. Many benefits here are free. The equipment is very well maintained, sometimes to the point of being aggravating since at some of our facilities the shop will tag a trailer to be fixed for something really minor and you can't leave until it is fixed. The trucks are all less than 4 years old, do 70, are a little underpowered compared to the ones we used to have but still just as good as any other larger company, have power this and that, and are automatic. The automatics aren't so bad now that the technology has advanced. As far as the bad stuff. You get 1 day off for every 6 days worked, and they are firm about that these days. Used to if you wanted an extra day off now and then all you had to do is ask. They made it a point to get you in as soon as possible on the day you went home, and let you leave as late as you wanted. Now they try to work you as much as possible on both the going home and leaving day. 2 weeks vacation = 10 days. Vacation weeks don't build as fast as a normal trucking company, it takes 3 years to get 2 weeks and 10 years to get 3 Sometimes it will seem like dispatch has zero communication when changing shifts. You do have to park your truck at a plant, but if your anywhere near one of our maintenance shops I would consider that more of a good thing as they can maintain the truck while you are at home instead of taking time out of working to do so. They may let another driver "borrow" your truck while you are at home, and there is little to know accountability for how that driver chooses to treat your truck. We have a few plants that are lousy, and it seems Springdale has no control over. We do not have detention pay even though we rarely sit places other than the few pain in the butt plants we have and still have no issues running hard up against the 70 hour clock every week. We have E logs, and with some of our loads you have to be extremely creative in your planning and execution to avoid violations. Sometimes you have to dig for information that I feel should be provided to you, both about some of our pay policies (talk to senority drivers once here) and about load information (having access to google is your friend). All in all if you dont mind not being home very much, and are good at solving problems, I can't think of anywhere else where you get paid as much as we do to drive as much as we do in equipment that is ready to make the trip. If you wish to be home a lot, and want everything written out in black and white for you, Tyson is probably not for you.

    Which of the 3 methods are used to determine and pay truck drivers their mileage pay at Tyson Foods?

    1) Household Goods, (HHG), mileage pay

    2) Practical Miles Pay

    3) Hub Miles pay
