Practical miles. It's adequately fair. There will be times you look at it and notice you're getting shorted x number of miles but you'll sometimes get paid extra, too. Example: the Russellville plant is situated about seven miles east of where the mileage is computed from. Vicksburg, about fifteen miles. So, it just depends which side you're coming from. It tends to even out over time. You really don't have to worry about them cheating you. They've been totally straight with me. On another point... I think I read a Tyson post saying Tyson wasn't good at paying layovers (detention pay). That's inconsistent with my experience. If you're not repositioned within 24 hours and you have < 200 miles in those 24 hours you'll receive $85 layover pay. 100% of my layovers have been approved this year. I even got one last week where I had 199 miles in 24 hours. I've had a few denied but it was because I didn't fully understand their criteria. Now, I do.

    mje Thanks this.

Tyson pays by address to address practical miles. Most of the time the mileage is dead on what it takes to get there using larger roads. There are some glitches in the system of course where in Russellville/Pottsville you get paid 2 miles for not even moving, and a pretty big one up in Olathe KS where there are two differant locations in the system for that dist center that are 12 miles apart. Both are to your credit, unless the few empty miles psuh you over the limit for mileage differential pay on short loads. There are also many times where a shorter road somewhere has been improved and they still pay to go the long way... Union City to Russellville is a good one as they pay to go all the way to Memphis then over when its quicker and way shorter to go down US 167. There are a few shortages in miles, but they are way less frequent than the overages. Most of those are due to our sales people not even entering the address in the system forcing the dispatch computers to use central location for the city. These are also the times when google is your friend as for some reason the dispatch has no address and many times no phone number on it, but google will have both. In any case on Average I get paid up to 5% more than I drive rather than 5-10% less like one would with HHG miles. We also have some route sales and shuttle fleets that get paid hub. if your looking for something to pick on, we don't get paid detention pay. Most of the time this becomes an issue you can get it with the layover. Layover pay really depends on the dispatcher and payroll clerk you are dealing with. I haven't had one actually denied in years, but I now make them put it on my card instead of my paycheck because I had quite a few last year where I never heard about them one way or the other, and they never showed up on my check.
