    On one hand carriers want a satisfactory employment history but their hired-after-orientation
    system makes it impossible to give a current employer a two week notice.

    It should be illegal to require an applicant to cold-quit an employer as a condition of employment.

    And just thinking about it makes me want to throw a ##%&@$ tantrum right now. That's what.

    Ask them if they like being treated that way and having employees walk out with out notice.

    On the other hand, IF they decided to get rid of you would they give you two weeks notice>I highly doubt it.

    I said that and they could care less about it and they don't back down, they want you on that truck when orientation is completed.

    There are many signs that trucking has a dark side, that high turnover is artificial, is manufactured, and makes it look like there is a driver shortage.

    There is NO driver shortage but there certainly is "driver churn" which fleets perceive as a shortage. If they fixed their revolving door they would soon realize their trucks all have drivers in them.

    That's my policy also. Orientation during vacation; if it doesn't work out you still have a job. It's none of your companies business what you do on vacation.

    Big carriers have it coming and going. They hire and fire or starve drivers into a hole.

    The up side is rates stay high when shippers and receivers believe the shortage exists.

    The down side is big carriers keep the revenues and don't pass it to experienced drivers.

    Trucking companies stay private, hard to get a look at the million$ they rake in versus the pennies on the dollar they pay their drivers.
