What do y'all think, Crete or Watkins Shepard?
How about Maverick compared to them?

I need an auto tranny, any ideas?

    Thanks for your input

Regarding auto tranny, I know that U S Express has them but I know nothing about the company.

They only have about 25 trucks out of a fleet of roughly 700 that have auto-shifts. This is what I was told when talking to a recruiter. I wanted to know for just the opposite reason. I am not a big fan of the auto-shift. I don't hate them, I just think they take all the fun out of driving. But that's just me, I'm old school.

I talked to a recruiter at Watkins and Shepard today. I really didnt like what she told me as far as how long you are out and some of their benefits (or lack there of).

I am pretty sure Mavrick has autos. Right now, Crete is #1 on my list due to the driving area being what I would like and Mavrick is #2. If Mav wasnt all Flat Beds, they would be #1, I just like the color of them trucks :biggrin_25523:

I don't think Crete has auto-shift trucks. At least they didn't when I drove there a few years ago.

I hope I don't appear to be sticking my nose where it doesn't belong, but why do you "need" an auto-shift truck, Captain Ron? Just curious. The problem with insisting on an auto shift is that it handcuffs you to only a few companies, and those companies may or may not be good to go with. I know Crete is good, but you'd better be able to push a clutch pedal with your left leg.

Speaking of the clutch pedal......I think truck builders should do away with clutch pedals as they are. The clutch pedal should be an electronic rheostat that controls an electronic device that moves the clutch fork. This would make it a lot easier for city driving when it's always stop-and-go. When I drove, I didn't use the clutch that much. This is because I went to New York City very early on and learned how shifting ten thousand times in ten minutes can affect your knee when you use the clutch. Luckily, I never went to big cities that much after this run. No matter, as I learned how to shift without a clutch the day after that NYC run. A gimpy left knee will always tell you the truth about driving rigs.

I don't need one per se but my hips were replaced a few years ago and shifting in cuty traffic can be quite irritating and sometimes painful.
I drove 10 spd Volvos for the Gvmt as well as auto shifts and prefer the auto shift. Just my preference....

:biggrin_25511:that if you had a hip replacement, anyone would hire you for flatbedding. Don't know this for sure but it would seem logical not to hire you for that reason. Someone else can confirm this I am sure.
