    Hello fellow drivers and driverettes,
It has recently come to my professional attention that during the initial hiring process which require drivers to complete an online application, fax in an application or U.S.Post in a complete 12 - 16 page original application with ALL pertinent attachments, drug and alcohol release, HIRERIGHT/DAC, PSP Safety Reports and last company work verification forms, that the Recruiter will contact you in several days with quote "YOU ARE 100% APPROVED"!

Most drivers take the time to fill out applications because he or she is experiencing some type of negative issue with their current employer and look forward to making a smooth transition into a new outfit that may provide them with the miles or comforts that they require.

After being told that your application is 100% approved, this would normally imply that you are likely to be hired. Rightttttt! ......... Wronggggg! What many of these out-sourced and many internal company based recruiters are doing is running your DMV, PSP Safety Report and Release of info documents under some type of personal filing system, then you get to orientation only to find out that Human Resources requires you to submit the same information and reports all over again. What type of nonsense is this? Meanwhile the unsuspecting driver is left in a state of semi-shock after learning that his most recent employer has not, will not or refuses to sign the release info. In fact, most employers are not aware that by law, they have 30 days to reply... Now back to the recruiter telling you "YOU ARE 100% APPROVED"! Why in the world would the recruiter make mention of this when they are in direct communication with Safety and Human Resources? I'll answer, they tell you this to lure you into orientation as you are 1/2 way in to the process of them getting that fat commission check. In most cases (90% +/-), your past employer is the last to release the documentation required of your new company for the driver to be employed.

So, what do we do? Drivers, once you submit your outdated form (I feel the information that most trucking companies require should be consolidated whereby the forms that they required are available from one agency-- orientations should never take over 2 days for most experienced drivers!).. DRIVERS, you must directly contact your previous 3 employer(s) notifying them that release forms have been emailed or faxed to their office and ask them if they have completed these forms and returned them to the requesting companies (that is plural as the smart driver will apply to more than one company)...

In following these instructions, we on the public trucking forum(s) will not have to read your "this company screwed me" testimony when in fact it is "you who is screwing you". You can not take it for face value when a mere Recruiter says "YOU ARE 100% APPROVED"!
    Last ........................................................................................................................................................
as long as you are 100% certain that your DMV Report is good and I do mean good: SO PAY THE $10 AND GO GET A RECENT COPY SIR/MAM!
as long as you know that your CSA 2013 PSP Safety Report is good and I do mean good: SO PAY THE $10 AND GET A RECENT COPY SIR/MAM!
as long as you know that your HireRight/DAC Report is good and I do mean good: GET A FREE COPY OR PAY $$$ FOR A RECENT COPY SIR/MAM!
as long as you know that your Criminal Background is reported if any: This shows on HireRight but if you are in doubt because of some recent hustlin activity, you might want to run a report on yourself or just turn yourself in, clear the charges and then apply for that trucking job.......................................
and last but not least, if you are 100% positive that it has been at least 32days or 3-6 months since your last puff or sniff or injection, PLEASE DO NOT BOTHER TO APPLY: ESPECIALLY TO THOSE COMPANIES WHO ARE NOW DOING HAIR FOLLICLE TESTING.................................................................

Oh I almost forgot to mention: Some companies try to sneak in other forms that require you to submit not only your information but the information of friends, family members and neighbors. YALL GOT TA START READING THE FINE PRINT ON THOSE RELEASE DOCUMENTS PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING AGENCIES BEING USED BY COMPANIES SUCH AS CELADON OR P.A.M.....
    ACCURINT - this is some B.S. ..................................................................................................................................................................

Driver IQ/CARCO - if your name is not out their internationally, it will be with this company..... ..... ..... ............ ........... ............ ............ .....
    Right of wrong, I disapprove of any company that uses the two mentioned above..... ...... ..... ............ ............ ............ ............ ............ ....
There are others out there just be careful of what you are signing off on drivers! lock & load and aim high ..............You are now 100% approved

Or stop working for outfits so large and with such great turnover that they have recruiting departments or rely upon outside recruiters. My application to my current company went directly to the Safety/HR department, who then took over gathering all the required background information. I wasn't "approved", I was offered a job. My first day of orientation was my first official day of employment.

Been here two months, and ain't planning on leaving until they drag my moldering, desiccated corpse out of the seat. Hands down the single best outfit I've ever driven for, with the best driver support network (dispatch, safety, load planning, and so on) I've ever seen in any industry.

just so you know, the recruiting department is part of Safety/HR at most if not all companies, and I can tell you with certainty that the company used outside sources to get your criminal, MVR, and a few other reports. Just want to clarify that just cause you work for this small outfit they dont use outside sources to find out some back ground on you is a myth.

    Excellent post by aimhigh.
I find it crappy that a company would bring someone to an orientation under the guise of them being 100% hired, when in actuality they have only done half of the legwork to vet him. It doesn't even make financial sense for a company to do this, let alone moral sense. A greyhound ticket and hotel room costs way more than a thorough background report.
Is there any other industry where this tactic is used so often?

well how many companies hire a person with out even seeing that person face to face and having a sit down interview with them. this industry is very unique in that most of the time until that person shows up on the first day the company does not have a clue what they look like, act like or how they will preform for them. just imagine some of the guys you have met on the road and then all of a sudden they show up on your door step and want to run team with you

every company out there uses outside sources for doing your back round checks and a lot of companies still do interviews but sometimes they do them on the internet such as skype and facetime. many companies have a large area that they hire out of makes it hard to give personal interviews. the way i see it is companies are just like drivers a company will hire a driver and he doesn't show and companies say your approved and will send you down the road just make sure you have that job before you say goodbye to the old one

I have never been approved by a recruiter , besides they tell you exactly what you want to hear just to get you to their orientation . Like they have said , its 1 of many hurdles one must jump ! I have NEVER seen a company hire anyone without a driving test . So if you think "Pre-approved" means you have the job , you need more time in a classroom ! NO ONE hires without giving you a physical , drug test & road test ! That is how it isdone , no matter where you go , so keep it in mind for your future job searches !!
