HELP PLEASE!!!! Averitt Express or Roehl Transport?

Guys I need your help. I am getting ready to graduate from CDL training next week. I have VERY good prospective companies to go with but I narrowed them down to Roehl or Averitt. I have pre-hire letters from both and have spoken with the recruiters at length with my chances of getting on. They both said I would get on for sure because I have a clean MVR, criminal history, employment history, etc. So Im getting on. Guys what do you think?

Roehl for my situation has a better hometime schedule, but Averitt has a little more pay (home every weekend) and they have a little better opportunity for getting a local route. I live within 35 minutes of both terminals(Roehl in Ellenwood-Averitt in Lawrenceville). I know a lot of you guys are Roehlians and anything Roehl does is great, but I need advice from people that actually WORKED at Averitt or Roehl! Not bandwaggoneers lol. Did you enjoy your experience? What did you strongly dislike about either company? Are you still with either company? I appreciate your help guys

I actually work at Roehl, and I like it. They are not perfect, but no company is. There are little things that bug me about them, but I really like the people and the safety record speaks for itself.
I have been treated fairly at Roehl and I am getting the miles. I have heard from some drivers who say they aren't getting miles, but I don't see how. Get your load there on time and safely and you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks Redwolf. What type of business does Roehl typically service? I have heard that they deliver to small businesses and it may be hard to locate these customers because they are on crappy roads. Or does it kind of depend on what loads you get? Are you satisfied or content with the customer base? Just hook me up with some knowledge brotha! I'm jumpy because the company I choose I will be with them for a long period of time. I dont want to jump from company to company.

Great quote by Roosevelt. I have never heard that but that is my moto. I dont care for the critic who has never experienced what he criticizes. I'm going to write that one down and wear it out.

They do all kinds of accounts. Paper, general freight, heavy equipment, lumber, etc.
I am in the van side, so I can't speak to the flatbed and curtain side of the operation, but I have seen pretty much everything moved. We even do refrigerated now with the Blume side of the company.
I have been to some crappy little lots, but I have also delivered to big distribution centers as well. You will see a bit of everything eventually.

I love that quote as well. Some politicians need to heed that quote in the next year.

Great honest info Redwolf. Thank-you. A great quote about politicians I read in one of the forums in here is: Diapers and Politicians need to be changed often, and for the same reason! LOL

The nice thing about having your CDL is that you can pick and choose where you want to work. If you just got your CDL you will learn that most employers are willing to hire anyone with a CDL in there pocket. Your job is to be a safe, no ticket getting driver. This will keep your doors open everywhere you go. I would sugestgoing to one of the places you mentioned and work there for a few months. Then take a leave of absence work the other place and then pick one either you go back to the first job or quit and stay at the second. the result of doing this is you get an inside look at both places and you can make the choice for yourself where you would like to work. because the right job for you is not the right job for me.

Exclamation Avoid Averitt

Yes, Averitt is supposed to be reputable, but not. Averitt pays mileage as per Household Movers Guide, so expect to be shorted 10% at the best of times, and (occasionally) more than 20%. In spite of claims, it is also very difficult to get them to pay for detention, lay-over or unloading. When I complained about being shorted more than 20%, some middle-level manager eventually told me "well...that our system".
