A good place to work. You will run reefer or curtain van. A lot of Bay Area, some L.A. & I believe they are also hauling some pot growing supplies up in to WA. They have a very regular gig bringing lumber from Scotia to Calpella, then dropping & hooking a pre-loaded trailer with a Home Depot load going to the Bay Area or Sacramento. Then you will bring a lot of beverage type loads back to Humboldt.

I'm not sure about the current pay scale or benefits, but Louis has historically taken pretty good care of his drivers. You should be home every weekend, occasionally during the week. It's like a lot of companies, they have a central core of drivers who have been there forever & then another group that seems to turn over. I've long thought that they had sort of an ####### culture among the drivers (too proud to talk to peons like me) but they've got some really good guys too.

Other companies to consider up there would be Customer Truck Service (All reefer), TJS tank lines (Food grade), Alto Bros. (Flatbed), Bettendorf/Costa (Chips & a little flatbed). It's too bad Nolan went out of business, that was a wonderful place to work. There are also various log haulers if you get someone to teach you the ropes. Local jobs post a lot on Craigslist too FWIW.

You need to understand that commercial pot growing totally dominates the local economy and culture up there, to the tune of about 400 million dollars per year, and you can't smoke any of it LOL!

Any other ??? just ask, I'll be glad to help you out.

thank you very much Boardhauler! I never want to haul a reefer ever again, but I'll check out alto bros. and Bettendorf. The only reason I'm even moving there is because the wife got excepted to HSU. It is beautiful up there though, I think I may like it. Thanks Again.

Goselin has way more curtain vans than reefers. I wouldn't cross them off the list. Keep us posted on where you end up. I think it's one of the most beautiful places on the planet to live. If I think of any other possible jobs up there I'll post them.

Humboldt would be a terrible place to live & work for Sammons. You have to be 65' OA to get in & out unless you come down the coast from OR. Make sure you follow up with phone calls to Goselin, maybe show up in person if you can. I will likely see their local driver in Calpella tomorrow, I'll ask him if they have any open seats.

Check with Bettendorf. They haul mostly chips and you'd probably be home every day.
