It does not matter who pays the most cpm it mainly matters who will give you the most miles.

    .50 cpm x 0 miles = 0.00

    .32cpm x 3000 miles = $ 960.00

    do you get the point?

Well, not necessarily. There are people who are quite happy with percentage based pay as well. But for that to really be feasible you can't run the whole country. The regional guys may make out better that way.

I may be a rookie but atleast I know 0 miles x anythig equals nothing.
I would rather work for .32 cpm than make nothing atleast I did not take a job with a lower cpm I had offers but I did not take it because of lower miles.

some of the companies that pay a %atge requires you to unload or pay a lumper the company that I am with has pretty much no touch freight.

the only freight that we may have to touch is flower / nursery loads.

The comment I made may have been a bit harsh and for that I apologize. The fact is the comments were accurate. The idea that you are bantering is a verbatim quote used by recruiters for some less than desirable companies. These large companies all use these "brainwashing" tactics to make their current employees and recruits feel like they got a good deal going. The sooner that newbies and some not so newbies broaden their mind a little bit and look at companies other than the 100 or so mega-companies that advertise all over the internet and are heavily discussed on this board, the better off they will be.

It's not OTR but it pays at least twice as much. Driving for a major oil company hauling gasolne to stations locally. They will want a perfect record and most require 2 years tanker experience. It's a goal that you work for. Just like OTR you start out working for the lower paying jobs and move up. I went out some years back at $23.50 an hour and every minute was paid for. Anything over 10 hours is time and half. Anything over 40 hours is time and half. Drivers were making on the average $75K. That's base plus 20K or more in OT. You're home every day and you had two days off every week. The down side is when you first start you're at the bottom of the board so you'll most likely work nights and through the weekend. That's the only downside and the benefits make up for that. How many companies out there have three different pots for retirement? Or how many companies will pay your long term disability until you decide to retire if you're hurt on the job? It's a goal and a good one.
