| Looking for info on Mav IC? (Maverick Transportation) Okay, first of all hello everyone. I am new to the boards. I have been reading and searching for a few days before joinong, but I haven't really found any info on what I am looking for. So far, as far as I can tell, Maverick Transportation seems to be a good company to work for.. but all I have seen about is their company drivers. My husband has had his CDL for 5 years, but has been working locally for the past 3 years. HE is currently looking into their Mav IC LLC program which is an Independent Contractor through their WALK AWAY Lease Program. I have also read some that some of you all do not recommend LP programs, but this is a "Walk Away" prorgram, so I thought it might be different. Can anyone give some info on this program through this companY? Anyone tried it? They say no money down or up front (out of pocket) and if he decided to leave before actually paying off the truck he could either switch to a company driver or quit with no reprocussions (not owing on truck). We are only looking into this type of program because financially we are hurting with him being the only one working since I am 6 months pregnant and we can not afford to get a loan to go O/O right now. Thanks in advance, look forward to meeting and talking to everyone. |

| I understand totally the desire to be your own boss. But it is never a good idea to allow one company that total control of you like there is thru any lease program. When the same company that holds your lease also provides your freight history has proven time and again this set up is not a good thing for the driver, for the company doing it.... yes, but not for the driver. As for Mav IC specifically I don't know and have not heard any thing on them. Me personally I wouldn't do it. You say you can't afford a loan right now, just keep in mind that even with a lease you'll be making payments, it'll just be BEFORE you see the settlement check, not after like if you had a loan.

| Thank you for that input... do they just not tend to give good loads or something? Anyone know of any specifics on this specific program or on walk away lease programs. I figure, if they don't give him the miles, then he can switch to being a company driver and not have all the payments to come out first, etc. He did talk to another driver who has been with their IC program for 13 months and really likes it, he said he brings home about $1500 per week after all his taxes, truck payments, etc. But, I like more than one opinion, especially since he was put in touch with this guy by a recruiter. |

| More info... Here is something we got from the company that explains about the program....

| It sounds good, but I'm leary of them just because of all the bad press every body else gets. If he does go this way please keep us informed.

| Oh I will keep you informed, I just wish I could get more info for my own comfort. We had them email us the lease agreement and we do have our attorney's reveiwing it, but it's about 60 something pages of stuff to read and sign... and of course it's not all written in lamen terms so that it's easily understanded by the average non attorney person... LOL. We will see what they tell us. I just don't want him to get in it even though it's considered a walk away lease, and then try to leave and they say he owes something... or not make enough to cover expenses to have anything left over. ~Kimberly~ |

| Well, don't look like hubby will be going with this company. They said his DAC had bad references on it, doesn't meet their requirments. Now, he is in process of getting a copy of his DAC and reports from the previous employers to see who said what. The recruiter said he couldn't tell him what the other company's said about him due to privacy etc. But, we found out that he has a right to get the reports up to 30 days after the day he was denied employment. They did tell him that TMC showed him as being fired... the problem... he has never worked for TMC! He did put in to work for them back in 2002, and he was sent up there for two days, told that since he had an accident showing on his report, that they couldn't keep him and he couldn't work for them.. so he came home. How can they say he was fired when he never was able to be hired? Also, they called him back after he was home and wanted to follow up with what happened, after it was all said and done, they said.. oh we are sorry, we can use you.. but by that time, he got a local job offer and had already took it. So, hoping this doesn't affect him with all the other companies out there... he has never been given a bad reference before till now, so we are not sure what is up! ~Kimberly~ |

| Maverick IC My husband also wants to become an IC. I am the designated researcher since he is on the road all the time. He only gets home for about a day and a half each weekend. We did expect that, but he hopes that if he leases, he can be home for maybe 2 full days or even 3 if he wants. I have read the posts about not leasing from a company and going through the bank. It does appear the way to go, but I would like to get more info about Mavericks IC program from someone in it before we make a decision. Thanks to all. |

| I have an application in with them for company driver right now .... hoping it goes good .... but have been thinking about doing the MAV IC in a year or two if the company pans out as everyone has talked about The biggest thing would be the money .... how much you make compared to being a company driver after all is taken out |
