Well starting Tuesday the 29th I'll be heading to orientation for rrts. There have been somethings said about it both bad and good so we will see. Hopefully I will sign papers on my last truck on Monday in Chicago. I am going with a Used 587 Peterbilt, 300,000 miles Cummins power with a 13 speed maybe a step or two up from a company truck. At this point I would like to say this is going to be a realistic look at trucking for rrts and I don't need negativity, so save it. I know someone thinks detroit is the way to go or you cant beat a cat or a 10 speed is better, so please just save those comments.

Everything I do will be geared towards making the most money I can. My intention is to give numbers, why I make the decisions I do and hopefully as my last 5 years till I retire to help out as many, want to be O/O's as I can. I have stated my background in other posts so I won't bore you with that. But in the past I haven't always done what I knew to be right always, this time my plan is to use everything I know to squeeze out every dollar of profit there is. My goal is 225,000 revenue gross. I will tell you my fuel mpg goals as well as whatever else Comes into play as time goes by.

I will give you all as much information as you want based on feedback from you guys and gals. For example I could elaborate on why I picked this truck. Again they are my ideas based on what I know are accurate facts so if you want more info just ask and it will be done.(eventually) So welcome to all especially newer guys, but you crusty old hands come on

I'll be following this ... similar position. Retiring in 6 years and looking at potential opportunities when I take title on my truck next year. RRTS is one of my target companies.

Good friend of mine is a broker for Roadrunner. He specialty is refrigerated freight so I don't pull for him but I do think about everyday when he calls with his offer of the day. I don't think you will be sorry going with roadrunner. He throws good numbers at me, I just don't have any experience puling a reefer.

Well today went out got a new physical even though mine had almost a year left on it. Drug screen done, car rented to get to orientation. Having been off since February I have mixed feelings about working again but no real options so I'll be back at it. My new avatar is a brother to the truck I bought, hoping to have some good luck to go along with hard work. Take care everyone.

Up in Milwaukee area for orientation, stopped by to insure truck would be ready. Now tomorrow I will get an intro to the company. So far so good they have promptly answered any questions I might have asked, and returned calls rapidly. I hope this will be the company I retire from Thanks for reading I will update how orientation goes.

Well Day one in the can. Orientation pretty standard the terminal was far nicer than I expected. There was good organization. There was no down time it is run by a fem-nazi I love her. Nothing exceptional just the safety videos and logs etc. Tomorrow we get into everything we need, payroll, rates truck permits etc. So far I am more impressed than what I was expecting. I almost forgot the most important thing we had cousins sandwiches for lunch, on them. They also provide snacks and drinks all day so I am good.

Day 2 and last day of orientation. 2 days is a nice short orientation. The day went quickly very short road test in an old mack day cab. Don't have any of the things I need plates, permits, insurance, when asked how we would get them they stated oh we can fedex them to you. Can't get on the web site load board yet no access to trailers or loads yet hmmmm other than this delay the program looks real good the people are friendly. Some guys that's been there for awhile gave me a pointer that I hadn't thought of and probably saved me 1000 bucks. For new guys it's ALWAYS a Pain in the hiner getting leased on anywhere. The rates are good even the terminal freight pays well. They are going to buy trailers soon so it will be drop and hook at the terminals. Well another day at the hotel. think tonight i'll hit the hot tub.

You don't have a password yet but try to click on this site and hit Load Board for the general hot spots. Usually very thin pickings on there but once you have a password you can hit he Backaul button and chose from many many approved brokers. chances are pretty good you will be getting calls from RR Logistics broker (agents) before your first load is even done. Hurry and snag that $10k load from Norfolk VA to Anchorage AK

Yes it takes then a few days to get the IFTA, decals, plates, and truck number assigned etc. Then a PO number to go pick up your trailer.. I live in northern California and orientation was in southern Cal. So while still leased onto a carrier I bobtailed down to orientation just in case something went wrong I didn't want to be caught without plates, insurance permits, authority etc. Orientation was Wednesday and Thursday like yours, they wanted us to post date the contract for Friday. I did mine for Monday because they didn't have plates and insurance and stuff right then and I didn't want to be stuck down in LA all weekend doing nothing waiting. So came out of orientation Thursday and hauled one last load for my company then bobtailed home and went to RRTS terminal Sunday night at stroke of midnight when the contract came into effect. I sat there until Wednesday waiting for everything to make my truck road legal. Thursday morning I Picked up my trailer and talked to the planner about getting me a load out to Dallas. Didn't hear anything else back the rest of the day and figured another day wasted. but around 2300 got a call to back up to the docks and got loaded for Dallas and it has been a blast since.
