Need info on what it's like to work for Fresh Del Monte as a local driver. I know it's a union job and pay seems pretty decent, but it appears that you have to work 6 out of 7 days working about 12 hours a day. Need information before I decide whether or not to work for them.

Seems like a LOT of hours for a Union gig. Especially since you'd most likely be in OT after 8hrs/day. If you did really work that much I'd say you'd probably make an insane amount of money over there. Add to that the free healthcare, pension, 401k and all the other perks that go along with Union jobs. I'd apply now and get in line, you can always clarify stuff later.

In the food industry, majority of the jobs are union, and OT is pretty much mandatory. That's why if you can get in any major food distributor, there's potential to make good money. I worked for Hostess Brands (aka IBC) for 8 years delivering twinkies and wonderbread, working on average 60-65 hours a week, and made 80-90k a year, before they closed down. And working for Del Monte seems to have the same potential, considering the amount of OT that's required. But you have to be happy with what your doing as well, just because it's a union job doesn't mean that your going to like the job. I worked at UPS for a while and hated every minute of it because of all the strict rules that they had in place. It was like walking on egg shells. Not a lot of OT, but after 5 years, you make $36 an hour. That's why I posted this question to see what the job is like. If someone can tell me if Dell Monte is a job that I should seek, or skip, I rather know from other truckers before hand on a website like this, before I invest any time.
