I am looking for threads about HHG. I am looking at a company in San Diego (I want to move back to California) Coleman America - an Allied affiliate.
I want to do some physical labor to stay in shape and I want to earn more. Does this work really pay $70-90K?
Any one with experience, please help me out or direct me to other threads.
Thanks!

Tough way to make a living. You have the full responsibility for people's possessions, when they move.

It can pay the much or more if you learn how to pack. Coleman is an ok company, lots of government work which is good and bad. Drivers who are willing to run cross country are in really short supply.

better speak Spanish

Have fun with those "tiny" subdivision roads, which weren't designed for tractor/trailers. Good luck to you.

I've been in the industry for 40 years. Yes, if the truck won't fit you can do a shuttle with a straight truck. But, you will often have to back down neighborhood streets and the like. On the plus side, you will have help who can stop traffic etc. It is true that much of the labor force is now Hispanic. Which is a plus and a minus. In many locations now a job where in my days as a driver I would have hired one or two helpers, they now send four or more. Usually a couple of them speak passable English. What sort of training does Coleman have? Also, most drivers do not live near the agency they sign on with so do not let that be a qualifier.
dogtrucker Thanks this. -
Thanks for the reply. Coleman has several location. One is in San Diego - I would like to go back to So California. I did not ask about training - I moved houses with straight truck when I was a youngster and believe I pretty much know what to do. I understand there is a slow season and maybe that is a good thing.
I am mainly motivated by money. I figure one must do something difficult to make 80 thousand.
Anymore detail about this type of work and they pay structure you can share? Thanks!
