rAIDER is a good company. Mike Jr. and Mike sr. are cool people. They really try and take care of there drivers. And you should have plenty of miles.

My school today referred me to Raider Express today based on converations I've had with the instructors and other company recruiters.

I talked with them, and the recruiter was pretty friendly and rather up front. And it really got me to thinking about going over there instead of the company I already have a pre-hire for.

So far this is what I have found out, at least from a student joining the company perspective.
  • Orientation is 1 day, and you are paid $100.
  • After orientation you start 3-4 weeks of OTR Training paid at $450 per week. You can be cut loose as early as two weeks if you are on the ball and your trainer thinks you are ready.
  • Starting pay for students is .30cpm.
  • .01cpm raises at 90. 180 and .02cpm raise at 1 year.
  • I don't remember exactly what the numbers were but their bonus schedule for performance, fuel and safety was rather insane. I think at the quarterly level it ended up being like .05cpm for all miles driven in the quarter.
  • They do mostly midwest and northeast deliveries.
  • And mileage is paid Zip to Zip which I think is HGG.
  • Current driver weekly mileage average is 2800-3000. Yep, seems insane but even drivers I talked to at the truck stop agreed with me.
  • 7-10 days on road then 48hrs off, and if you want to spend more time out you can.
That is all I have at the moment, he went over quite a bit more but those are the highlights.

Raider is based in Ft Worth, Texas and that is really their only terminal. They have drop yards all over the country, about 25 or so. And they pull on dedicated contracts only and everything is refer.

Since they are based in Ft. Worth they only hire within a 100m radius. They are a very small company and only have about 100 truck and about 200 trailers.

I got the chance to meet Mike, Jr while I was there and he was pretty cool. The hole place seems laid back, more like a family atmosphere.

Anyone else have any information on Raider? Such as from folks who already work for them or used to?

I am seriously considering going there instead of my current pre-hire because of what I perceived as a great atmosphere based on the two hours I spent there talking to not only the recruiter but some of the drivers and shop guys as well.

Thumbs up

I have heard good things about Raider as well. Also they rarely have adds in the papers in DFW like CRE, Swift, Werner, Stevens and all the other bottom feeders. They are always hiring and have permanent adds in paper and on line. Plus it sounds like they have a salary progression already written into their Co policy. If it's in writing it is more likely to happen. Good luck.

I had the privledge of working for Raider. They were open and honest with me. They treated me like family. I wasnt a employee but i was family. And that I enjoyed. They ran me good.Even when i made a decison to leave to buy my own truck they talked to me. And were concerned if I would make it. I wish i had of listened to em. Cause i lost my butt on the deal. So i give them a thumbs up. 100%.. Wish i had of never left. So if ya can get on with thisgood company. Do it.

Thanks Wildcat, that's good information. I spoke with them today after I got my CDL and they said they would love to have me based on my pre-hire application.

I have the full application package (I picked it up yesterday) and I'll be going over there tomorrow afternoon to turn it in and do my interview.

One note, on what I posted yesterday. Raider pays practical miles and not Zip to Zip.

Maybe I should check into them. I just don't like pulling reefers

Well, reefers have their advantages and disadvantages. I originally told myself I would not pull reefers but after talking to many folks, including my school instructor who pulled reefers for five years I decided to take a chance on it.

The only downside I can think of is the noise of the unit. And they make earplugs for that kind of thing
