I can't shed any light on Sammons one way or the other...but you might want to do a forum search, I remember reading some stuff about them.

I did work for Waggoners carhaul for a while and met a few of their flatbed owner operators. The ones I met and talked with were very happy.

They run an LTL flatbed deal(oilfield stuff) and were making tremendous money according to them...the usual disclaimers apply here as it might be a truckers fairy tale. However...they were all driving newer Petes or W-9s so i figured they were either doing rather well or they were morgaged right up to their eyeballs.

They are home officed in Billings, Mt...at least in your home state. Although not right next door.

On a side note...I made fairly good money with them hauling cars when my truck was up and running(company equipment was old and tired)...I left to come off the road because of my wifes health(arthritis). I've got a local job now...still in a truck.

Google their website and check them out...can't hurt.

    Happy Thanksgiving

Don't even think about it, broncrider. My father in law signed up with them the same month I signed up with Landstar. I was running continuously every week for great rates while he sat for days at a time waiting for them to find him loads. He sat more than he drove. When they did find him loads, they were for crap pay. They also don't have very much freight. For instance, he called me from Chicago. He was sitting empty for 3 days and they couldn't find him a load. Just for kicks, I pulled up the Landstar board that day and there were 1500 flatbed loads within a 400 mile radius (or something like that anyhow...it was alot). Sammons said they only had 3 loads within a 400 mile radius.

He switched to Landstar the next month and has been rolling ever since with no sitting. He just about went broke in the month or two that he was with Sammons.

I know it's tempting because they are in Montana where you live. When my father in law finished orientantion, it took them 5 days to find him a load out of Montana. He sat in their yard the whole time.

If you don't like Landstar for some reason, then go with Mercer, but stay AWAY from Sammons.

    Just my 2 cent's worth.

Sounds a lot like some thing I heard from a Sammons driver last winter.

Bronc like I told you on the phone, run screaming like a little *itch. You would be better off selling your truck and working for Donny again than to lease with Sammons.

There is no reason to sit more than 3 hrs in Chicago looking for a load ......... unless

    1. you want time off

    2. its a holiday weekend

    3. you are really really really picky and don't like whats coming out of there

been out of the loop for awhile. But I have been offered a deal with a local company that takes 20%. They have a brokerage comp that I deal with and they treat me alright. They got wind of me looking for a new home and are trying to get me over there. My better half is sold on it but I keep having res. about them. I still lean toward ls. Can anyone give me some advice on this. Ls is waiting for me on a couple of things.

Get a hold of some of their other O/Os and talk to them. Make your decision from there.

I've been working for Sammons for the past year. Other than being a little slow in January I've been doing great. You do have to call some agents and the offices to get loads. I don't sit unless I want. Six Brix father inlaw couldn't have been calling. He said he waited days for someone to find him a load. I would strongly recomend Sammons as long as you want to work and don't expect everyone else to do it for you.

I also agree I met two owner operators for Sammons at the TA in Greencastle,PA. They told me they had been in that truckstop from Friday up to the following Tuesday before they got a load out of there.
