Many of you know that Schneider tests new graduates from 3rd party schools and decides whether to put them in the 4 or 14 day orientation. I think at 350$ a week, I'd rather do the 4 day. So, if any of you have been through those tests please let me know what's on it. I've heard on here the part people have trouble with is their Qualcom, if anyone has info on how to use it let me know.

If you are newbie CDL holder from another school (or company), Schneider will ask you something along the lines of "if we wanted you to, would you be able to go out and drive the truck, run loads, use the qualcomm...etc with no issues whatsoever?" I think the way they word it...they know you don't know how to use the qualcomm and that can be a sticking point. I don't know if they test you per se to decide which program to put you into...but I think they just ask you some general questions and then go from there. they also want to know if you can trip plan.

The Qualcomm is easy to use...However its knowing how to use the premade macros that can be the hard part. I work for them and I dont understand them! Of course I don't have to use them since Im not a regular OTR driver. You have lots of premade macros:
*freeform....not premade, but you just type what you want and send it in.
*various load information shipping and billing macros...quite a few for each load as far as when you get there, when you leave, when you arrive, your planning info...eta crap...etc.

I really think that if you have a CDL and don't know how to use the macros in the qcomm, thats going to be an issue and you will have to run the full course. Kind of stupid because they could just give you their big training book and you could learn that way....but nope.

Not all qualcomms are set up the same or have the same amount of canned msg input's or in the same order, so a driver would have to tell you how to use their system. Some pick it up quickly and some don't.

In my book the only way to know if you needed 4 or 14 days would be to send you out with someone on a load and see. This time of year you might make more money just taking the $350 for a couple of weeks (which ain't that long) and not worrying about it. :biggrin_25525:

Yea, especially considering I'd have a trainer for 1-3 weeks. I was thinking about going to a truck stop and paying a Schneider trucker to show me, ha. I'm worried about driving all the way up there and getting through several days of training just to get pulled out for some thing stupid in my background and having to drive all the way back, completely unpaid.

I start in greenbay the 29th and the recruiter told me that it depends on how much you know, if you need more time to learn the quallcom then they give it to you, I would think you can pick it up within 14 days or less, I don't know alot about it but i dont think it will be to bad, good luck

You either got 4 days or go 14 with all the people who don't even have a CDL. They teach you how to do their logging and trip planning, HAZMAT, and Qualcom. Other than that it's the same stuff all over. Let me know how it goes and how many drop-outs you have. And if the hotel is really so bad.

Very true. Each company has their qual coms set up different. Now as for myself I am no computer genius,so I would probably just go ahead and take the 14 days. You are looking at a new career,so whats a few more days of orientation? Also pay strict attention to the log book training,it aint like the old days when you could do a lot of creative logging.

When they ask you "if you can go pull a load for them today", tell them YES! It's the only way you can get out to do a road test.

They will see how you do a pre-trip and drive. The qualcomm is self explanatory, tell them you'll need to know how they expect you to do it but that you know you need to send a message in when you get a load, deliver it arrive at the shippers etc...

They will also have you do a couple 45 dgree backs...make sure you stop and get out and look at least one time on each back or they will fail you.

I would at least try it, the worst that can happen is they say you need the 14 days of additional training...which isn't that bad.
