Very interesting reading in this thread,I'd take this job in a heartbeat to make $70-$90K a year.
Once I have the 2 years experience required by US Food I will be looking into it for sure.
I've worked many hard jobs so the physical aspect doesn't scare me,it's called work for a reason lol.
I recently left a 99% no touch freight job at May for a Schneider dedicated account where I have to handle every box in the trailer by hand and being a dollar Tree account there are many boxes in a load,some pretty heavy like cases of water or Gatorade etc.
A lot of people even at Schneider's orientation thought I was somewhat touched like the village idiot or something but I made the switch to get better home time (every weekend),pay is about the same maybe a little better if I get my bonuses available after being there 6 months.
My first day was yesterday and it is pretty darn hard work,setting up rollers in the truck to hook onto the store's rollers and stacking every box on them and pushing them out of the truck.
The stores do not have docks and the loads are mostly floor stacked so no pallet jacking most of the time you just add more rollers as you move back in the trailer and pick up every box.
I can't say I'm not a little sore today but I'll survive and get used to it,I look at it as a stepping stone to get a good paying gig like US Food,they start at $21.xx hr in this area.
Hard work seems to be alien to a lot of the younger gen these days,even the equipment like lift trucks etc are a lot less work than they used to be back in the day with automatics or electric motors and computers on board to track freight.
I'll be 55 years old this year so I'm no spring chicken but I'm game,I'm a seasoned worker who can do a hard days work without whining about it (I still cut, haul,split & stack my own firewood) just show me the job and give me the chance and I'm on it for that kind of money.

Amen Brother, I good work ethic can and will over come age any day. I'm like you, I don't mind working hard and even look forward to it. All I ask is pay me what it's worth.
