I've been reading everyone elses opinion on Priority, so I thought I would throw my 2 cents in, being as my guy has been with the company for 2 years. I'm just an outsider looking in on the situation, not directly involved. But here goes... The company seems a little shotty. I agree with a man's previous post about his truck constantly being in the shop, they seem to have a problem with basic maintenance. My guy's truck has had bad batteries on it for a while, yet they won't change them. A couple weeks ago, he jumped into his truck to start it before he left, and the batteries were dead. Again. He went to the local garage and borrowed a battery charger, called his dispatcher, did everything required. He tried to save the co. time and money, he did it all himself. He kept saying that his dispatcher would be spiteful later about this, which he was. He finally got his truck up and running, made it to his stop, and the guy said he had to wait until 5am the next day to unload, over 12 hours, at a place that you can unload anytime. They've been shorting him miles, he only gets about 1500 miles a week. They just made a new policy... if your idle time is over 40%, you lose .2/mile off your paycheck. When the co. in the middle of WINTER isn't giving you the miles to drive, making you sit for ungodly hours for a load, and you aren't allowed to idle your truck to stay warm for fear of losing MORE money on top of horrible miles... it's pretty bad. Now, when he's home on the weekend, on top of plugging in his truck, he has to every 8 HOURS go out, start his truck, and send a message over his qualcomm that its not frozen, because they don't want you to idle. Let's be honest... you could go out 10pm at night, it could be fine, and 6am when you check it again, it could be frozen. (Its possible... we live in the Adirondacks, its coooollldd) Its almost like you are still on duty, when you are supposed to have weekends off. (Makes a nice holiday season if you PLANNED on seeing family. Nope... check the truck or lose your job) They don't allow you to drop your trailer to bring just your truck home, or else I'm sure they'd have less of a problem with freezing trucks. Drivers who have no room at home have to park their trucks in parking lots, away from home... harder to start it every 8 hours, or even to plug it in!! Last year, they REQUIRED trucks to idle or else if it froze up, you'd be responsible for the tow bill. I mean, it's a bunch of different things. They short on layover pay, detention pay... He sat for 2 1/2 DAYS out near Chicago, and never got paid for it because he never went over an appt time, because he never got an appt time to go over. He arrived when he was supposed to, he wasn't at fault. He's met many other drivers for Priority with a better experience, only because they are willing to throw the log book in the back and drive miles illegally. He met one gentleman who was averaging 3500 miles a week illegally. While he was beggin his dispatcher for drive time. When he refuses loads, they almost become spiteful because he's out of drive time, or needs his 34 hour reset. I'm sure there are much worse places to work, but personally... he's already looking for another job. They turned down their trucks from 70 to 65mph, making their drivers sit in their trucks freezing, not giving miles to good workers, fighting tooth and nail about extra pay, delaying repairs on trucks... its been overall a rotten situation. I wish they would be more fair, and do their JOBS and provide miles evenly among the drivers who are willing. They promised drivers with low idle time and trucks getting over 7 MPG an extra .2/mile in their paycheck in the summer... but no one got it, because their trucks aren't in the best condition. And yes, they have a very high turnover rate, on top of low safety standards apparently. We don't expect he'll be home every Friday night until Sunday, or that he'll get 3000 miles a week... but, it would be nice if he could at least make the .37 he signed on for, and not have a choice between being warm or losing money. I'm appalled at any company who would do this, and at what they advertise... because none of it is true. :biggrin_2551:

I live fairly close to farmington. and i have personally dealt with some of their drivers at our docks, they must hire them right outof school. we had one trying to back into the dock[which has alot of space to get to] tried for 15mins and got out and said i cant do it!!! we had another drive right off the driveway and get buried, then a mechanic trird to tow him out and he #### near tore off the truck that was towing him. Its scary to think we drive next to some of these people on the roads

I totally agree... they do hire newbies. I saw that they are no longer accepting drivers that have a DUI on record, when just 2 years ago they were hiring people with a DUI a year after they got it. My guy's complained about the horrible drivers they have, and I'm sure every company has these kind of drivers... but if these guys are willing to just ignore all DOT laws, they get the miles, not the responsible ones. Its just a bad situation overall. He thinks he's gonna get fired for complaining about these new guidelines they have to the regional boss, which I hope not. They are trying to get him to "throw the log book in the back" tonight, he has no hours left at 11pm, yet he's supposed to drive from Rochester to Bethlehem PA by 6am. Sigh. I guess you just can't win there.

    That place treats drivers badly.

I got caught overwieght in OH(BOL was 3000# off), they paid the fine and then told me to drive off after the scale closed.:biggrin_2555: No other options, just break the law at my own risk.

I quit a couple of days later, but was told I could try with another dispatcher(DM). I said sure, that lasted one day.:biggrin_25510: I got fired for stopping at a store by the terminal to get soda.

After asking repeatedly to see the rule I violated and to have it all in writing, I gave up. The head dispatcher said it was his decision, so I asked if he could put it in writing since he could explain it best, being his decision. He even told me there is no rule that he could show me that I violated. He refused and said my DM would do it, the same one that just shrugged her shoulders at me when I tried to drop my keys off, ignoring me.

I also had just gotten to the point to start recievibg benefits.

How long has your boyfriend worked for Priority? My guy has been there for 3 years this February... you would think they'd give him a little credit for sticking with the company for so long but I guess not. He's home this AM... he got to his truck and he had a load of issues with it this AM, he was supposed to leave 2AM to go to Connecticut, guess not. Waiting for breakdown to pick his truck up and someone's picking up his trailer... they don't seem concerned about the truck he said, more concerned about the load. :( Another day of lost pay. We're looking for another job for him, hopefully your guy has better luck there.

Priority Transportation Closes. No warning to there drivers what so ever. They simply sent out message on qualcom stating that they are to deliver there loads and drop there trucks at the terminal where they can apply with the company that bought them out, ofcourse with less home time and a lower pay rate.

Celadon Group Inc. announced today that one of its wholly-owned subsidiaries has signed a receivables collection and equipment marshalling agreement with Priority Transportation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Priority America ("Priority"). Under the agreement, Celadon has agreed to use reasonable efforts to cover certain customer loads, to assist a secured lender in retrieving tractors and trailers under defined circumstances, and to assist in the collection of accounts receivable. Celadon will not purchase any assets under the contract.
Andy Howley, Priority Chief Executive Officer, stated, "Due to continued high fuel prices, weak freight demand and escalating operating costs, as well as a tight credit market, Priority will be phasing out of most of its over the road operations, which include its trucking operations in Farmington, N.Y. and Chesterton, Ind. We have entered into an agreement with Celadon to assist in the wind-down of operations and to help ensure continuity of customer service."

    Hmmmmmmmmmm
So, "Continued high fuel prices, weak freight demand and escalating operating costs, as well as a tight credit market", are the reasons this bottom feeder company blames for going under?
    No mention of shoddy management?
    Imagine that.

And Celadon is going to "assist in the wind-down of operations and help to ensure continuity of customer service"?!

Well, I reckon that's ONE way to spin it.
Kinda strange that Priority made no mention of their shabby treatment of their drivers.

From the way it sounds, the truckin' industry is better off without Priority. I hope that leaving their drivers high and dry comes back to haunt them. But companies like that seem to cover their buttox in these events.
Anybody know how many drivers Priority left hanging without a job?
