I don't know about the Flatbed division, but our old neighbor is driving for them and he LOVES them. Brand new pete condo, and a dedicated route. He's home a couple nights out of the week and most weekends. He's pretty picky when it comes to companies, so they must be pretty decent to work for. :biggrin_255:

they do not pay well, and you drive lots of hours.
There are a lotof other truck lines that pay better.
here is my thing with them
I was employed with Decker from Sept 07 until April 11,2008.
I had to be out to have surgery, The company knew of this, my dispatcher knew of it. On Friday April 4 2008 when I came home to have the surgery on April 8, 2008 they told me i had to leave the truck in Birmingham Al for the week that i was to be off,
No one contacted me other wise.
One Friday April 11.,2008 i received a phone call at 5:00 PM informing me that because i had to be off to have surgery, I was being let go.
I have several letters proving how well they said i was a driver for the company. I only had one incident during my employment and documentation of that as well.
they let me go for invalid reasoning.
    NOW
they have a driver that i went thru school with that just doesn't care what so ever during training her ran over several people and cars, and they still let him work.
While on the road he rammed thru a closed gate because why??
Have no idea, but the people got him loaded to get him out of there.
The dispatcher for Birmingham area is not good at her job at all.
she will tell you one thing and it be wrong then say she didn't say that, to try to get her ### out of hot water. but if you have 10 people standing there saying oh yes you did, and they still took her word.
they are not a good company at all to work for. You work your Butt off and they send you letters saying how wonderful a driver you are congradulations on no accidents then fire you when you have to have surgery!
its up to you Dude if you want to work for a place like that.:biggrin_2556:

There's more to the story than what you're saying. It's illegal to fire you because you're having back surgery. You did something to get yourself fired, poor performance or something. That can't just let you go cause you're having back surgery.

Nope Decker is based out of Iowa, Iowa is an at will state, meaning that they don't have to have a reason to fire you. Means you can sneeze wrong and if they dont like it, they can let you go.
As I stated in my first post i have plenty of letters telling me how wonderful I was doing and how proud they were to have me as a driver. Heck when I was sent to Iowa after my traning here, i was to stay on training there for 3 more weeks, but instead one of my bosses rode with me and a week later turned me loose on my own. I traveled many a mile hauling steel coils. with only one MINOR incodent.
My training was in Birmingham Alabama, which is also an at will state.
Beleive me I have checked into it.
and aslo talked to them about monies still owed to me where they didn't pay the correct amounts.
I hope I do get my money, but in the mean time I am looking for another company.. have any great ones to recomend?

i dont know about all that legal stuff. i was looking at them cause they are regional. and to be home a little more regular. so far ive only talked to a few driver. i talked to some van reefer guys who was happy, just like any other job i guess, but they didnt know anything about the flatbed divison. and the few flatbeds ive talked to seemed happy, was haveing any problems. but like was said, who knows what happens when you get hurt or what not. right now im happy where i work i guess. i deal with alot of motorcycles and such. i do alot of bike shows. if your wondering i work for Sports Associated out of kc, mo. but at times i get tired of dealing with bikes and corporate people when you do there shows. at times i think it would just be easier to go back to flatbed. but who knows. ive looked at a few companies, melton, decker, arrow, tmc, maverick. im always looking thru the little truck stop books and online. but i know id like to have the opportunity to be regional and home more,, if i want it, im not saying i wont do 48 state, but at least would like to have a choice if anything comes up. i appreciate everyone's replys to this.

Well it was not all that bad, the pay was ok but lots more companies that pay better. And I would hope correctly. your stop pay is supose to be 75.00 usually never got paid for those, your drop hooks were 25.00 each, they paid me 2.50. they never paid correctly, that is why you have to keep a CLOSE eye on your checks.
I am just saying there are better companies out there, I would have never thought that they would let me go because i had to be out for surgery.
They sent letter after letter each month praising me for my work, and after arriving in Iowa, and boss man rode with me to chicago 3 times you are to be in training there for 3 weeks, they cut me loose on my own after the 3 trips to chicago.
Long hauling is what I have always wanted to do, so i have to find a better company to work for any suggestions would be nice and helpful
