Around here , they start you on the recycling route. A lot of stops, a lot of lifting recycling bins, long days, etc. Doesn't sound like something I would want to do, but that's me....

I have not had one day that I lost my pride working for a Garbage Company. Everyday I am proud to call myself a Veolia Garbage Girl...I am sure my guys are too. But, driving a garbage truck for a Fortune 500 is different than OTR. Most companies have installed "drive cam"...no smoking and driving...lots of "in's and out's"of back alleys in places that most people don't want to go, and at times of night that most people don't want to be there. But, if you can work with it...it's a GREAT industry!

not bad pay here in fla either the problem here is alot of guys cant handle the heat here in summer so they are always hiring and i think down here they pay a daily rate with that "Chinese" overtime but the guy i talk to still like it
-

Hadn't seen this thread before. Glad someone brought it "back to life." Man I just can't understand the attitude of a job being beneath someone's dignity or whatever was posted.
If you need the work, you should be glad to get it.
Since WM is a huge company, you can be sure that their policies and their pay will differ from area to area. IE the job that pays 80K in California will likely pay >30K in Utah.
And from the looks of most of the equipment I've seen, I wouldn't think they would hire anybody without the class A, so that you could drive whatever they needed you to. -
I deliver trash from Leon county over to a WM facility in Jackson county Florida, we use 53ft trailers and transfer all the trash out of the county since leon's landfill is at max capacity, anyhow that particular facility has it's drivers on hourly wages. I spoke with a roll off driver who had been there 10 years and was paid 15.76 an hour, which is really good pay for Florida, especially Jackson county. You just have to have a good mindset for the job, most likely you will start on residential pickup which is very physical, and very dirty but with time you will move up the ladder in to the easier positions like front load or roll off.

Waste management is really very important. There are so many skip hire companies available now which can help in it.
