Lets see if I can shed some light on my experiences with MBI. I work out of Chicago (Burnham) the corporate headquarters for the company. I've worked there well over 11 years and know all the upper management including Jim himself personally. Now I understand that we are on a totally different pay and benefits scale up here because we are union so I can't really hit that area for the company non union drivers, BUT I will say my feelings of the company. There are so many pros and cons here it's pathetic. Pretty much everything I've read in this thread is right on, the good and the bad. They WILL expect you at work, it's a PAIN IN THE BUTT to get a day off. I personally got wrote up for taking a day off for the birth of my daughter!!!!!! I wouldn't even sign it, they mailed it to me lol, the pay up here anyway is stupid crazy!! I know it's union but the laziest driver is still gonna make $60,000. We have guys that run really stupid making 6 digits. Is it worth it? No, stay away!!! Why am I still here? Well I've got too much invested now. I'd be giving up a lot of seniority and a union pension that I've worked towards, I can't give that up. I just go to work, mind my own business (try to), and collect a good pay check. Sometimes I run hard and sometimes I don't. We have a couple transfers open 24 hours a day up here so it's kinda nice that you can write your own check with this company so to speak, they're not gonna make ya park the truck if there's work to do and you wanna work. Basically years ago when jim owned the company and wasn't as big as it is now it was waaaaaay different, more personable, but as it grew, and I can't blame jim for expanding and growing that's the name of the game right?? But jim kinda forgot the first "gang" so to speak on his way way to becoming a big corporation. We're all just truck numbers now. I've worked all over the country with this company. Loved going to Phoenix. Delivered trucks to salt lake, didn't work there cause of no endorsement for doubles, don't want em either lol, Collin, if he's still there, seemed really cool. Did Minnesota this past summer, lots of upset drivers up there. Tennessee........... You boys need help... Sorry... Take better care of your trucks would ya? Every Tn truck I see come back to burnham is just DISGUSTING!!! I understand the outside being dirty but the inside is on you... My truck up here has 356,000 miles on it and no stained seats at all, I take care of it. Anyway, bottom line is I you can come to work, do your job, not be a complainer or whiner and put up with some BS then you might make it, otherwise just stay away. You never know what you'll be in trouble for next. As we say in burnham, 300 drivers, 300 different sets of rules... I'm sure it's like that all over.

I've been here a month now and keep getting different stories about Saturdays... Do you with 11 years still work Saturdays? Ive talked with a guy who says he has 2 years and every blue moon has to work a Saturday and Ive talked to a guy with 8 years who says he has to work almost every Saturday? Uh can I get the real story? Im obviously talking about mandatory work...

First of all, I'm sure you already know the Saturday after every holiday is a mandatory Saturday. It's just like a weekday, have to run 2 loads unless there's not much to haul like this Saturday was. A guy that's been here 2 years and says he only works once in a blue moon is lying to you. I do get a lot of Saturdays off but honestly I couldn't tell you how much because I don't normally look at the list because I normally work them anyway, guess I'm greedy. The only time I check the list is when I actually want to take one off. Saturdays to me, if I have nothing going on especially in the winter, are just easy money to me. You only have to do one load. I make sure I leave early and get that one load and I'm home before anyone even gets out of bed, about 7-8:00. Just a way of doing it for ya to make it a little easier because being a newer hire I don't care what anyone tells you you're gonna be working Saturdays for a while. So if you plan on sticking it out you may as well find a way that works for you like I mentioned above. Call me crazy, or as I said greedy lol, but doing that one load on Saturday doesn't bother me too much. That one after a holiday sucks tho!!!! I bet a lot of people on here are enjoying a nice 4 day weekend. Not us, one day off, work Friday and a FULL day Saturday. I live to the south so there are NO jobs paying what I'm making here so I make it work. Kinda have to deal with a few things to keep making the good money. I know it's stupid but that's what I tell myself to keep my sanity and my job lol.. I actually use to do the same thing on Sunday even. Planet use to be open on Sunday mornings from 6-10. Not the case anymore but I would leave early and get the first load and be home by 8:00. Those were the days I use to run a lot harder tho. Planet isn't open Sunday mornings anymore.

Gotcha... Speaking of planet I cant wrap my head around how it pays like a buck less than the loop... Its not much but man getting on 290 to get to it is such a pain and longer I cant understand how loop could pay more? Help me with that one please... I can say with the month and couple weeks Ive been here I don't have many complaints... The dispatches don't bother you at all which is a plus, the job is very easy... If there wasn't any traffic in Chicago and never a wait at any transfer station this job would be Gold... LOL... I guess I do have one complaint, since Newton went down to 3 tippers the wait has at times been really long... Hopefully they will start running all 5 again? Maybe? I have been to Pontiac a couple times and know they only have 3 but maybe Ive or we been spoiled by the 5 at Newton... Ive heard being a new guy they probabaly will ask me to go out of town at some point which coming from a road driver to this I have no problems with at all... What are your thoughts? Is it worth it? I hear Minneapolis is always short on drivers... Thanks Dude

Don't try to figure out pay or anything here, your head will spin til it falls off. I've spent countless years trying to figure why they do what they do, why they keep changing what landfill it goes too, and why the landfill does what it does when you get there lol. Seems everytime I get a good run going they change it. As far as the landfills I notice the good and the bad always seem to come in waves. Runs good for a few weeks then bad for a few weeks and so on. That's my experience in Pontiac anyway which is the only place I go. As far as Minneapolis, I went simply out of boredom last summer. Not bad, since we're union we get a minimum guarantee, plus per diem pay plus they buy the room. I was there for a week and you'd only work a 8-10 hour day and for the money you'd make I was very pleased. I flew there and drove a truck back so I made extra money on that but overall it's a good place to go. Once you learn where you're going up there not bad at all, 95% walking floors there which aren't hard to figure out if you haven't done them. Check this out, in Minneapolis when you put your turn signal on to change lanes the 4 wheelers actually move out of your way!!!!!!! It was a pleasant break from Chicago. One more thing about the per diem up there. You don't see that money til you eat your check 2 weeks later so you have to have the cash to buy the food and things while you're there. Motel had fridge and microwave so I only went out to a eat a couple times. I went up there with a very good friend of mine so it was kinda like old times and partying while we were there, bar and grill was next door to the hotel lol.

Cool, Thanks for the info... What do the loads from ARC in Mount prospect to Pontiac pay? Also being new am I at top scale or how many years till I reach that and how big of a difference is it?

I received a check 2 weeks ago for 9 loads and it was 816.00 take home then this week my check was 917.00 take home for 13 loads... Im guessing that has to be a mistake I cant see 4 extra loads only giving me 100.00 extra... What you think? I have to call the payroll tomorrow and see what the deal is...

I just got back from South Carolina, brought a New truck and Trailer down and worked out there for close to 2 weeks until they had a enough guys hired being that it was a new MBI Location... Very easy... All country back roads no traffic at all. No waiting at the landfill and you tip your own loads... From SC I went to Atlanta and picked up a truck that was rolled over and drove that hunk of junk back to Burnham... Fun Fun
