    Hey Burkey.

I`m pretty familar with Bulkmatic since We had a BIG account with them in the late 80`s (I worked for Bandag then in south Chicago where Bulkmatic is right across from the Dump.) Although I`m a Newbie just out of school I`m looking forword to doing tankers in a few years.

    pro 1 driver.

I`m sure most newbies would like me make sure we can do the job safely and securely before doing that type of driving. None of us were born with the skills to do this.

Hope you get your time in and then can start looking for something you really want to do, vice what you have to to gain experience. I am completely happy with Bulkmatic, and if you have the experience and can handle this form of trucking, I think it's a wonderful opportunity. Obviously, located in Chicagoland, vice me living over here in Mich, there are some things you can do that I can't, including running a day cab and being home daily. But it's good work, and it fits me well.

    Hi Burky,
Thanks For Responding To My Question About Going To Hinkley Water Or Not. We Own A Home In Highland Indiana And The Griffith
Location Is Real Close. Based On Your Input, I Think My Best Game Plan May Be To Get My Class A Cdl At Prarie State College And Then
Hit The Highway. What You Described At Bulkmatic Is Exactly What Type Of Situation I Am Hoping For.
I Am Very Used To Hard Work As I Load And Unload My Truck For Hinkley, But I Want This Career Change To Be Something I Can Last Until At Least 62 Years Old. Unless I Go Into Management, It's Hard To Picture My Self Hauling 2-3 5 Gallons Of Water Up 4-5 Flights
Of Steps In The Older Parts Of The City At 62 Years Old.
When I Worked For Ajax Sanitary Supply In Gary, I Used To Call On The Falcon Terminal In Gary. I Know Paul That Helps Manage The Terminal There And I Was Going To Call And See If He Is Still There. I Know They Hire New Graduates And Then Continue Training At Their Facility.
    Anyway, Thanks Much
    Toby

I'll put this Co on my list since they have a term in Chattanooga. Which is where we will be moving to in a year.

Yes it did. We moved to Niles at the first of the year, and then we have since then pretty much closed down the office we had in Niles. The drivers from there just take their paperwork and other things through the terminal at Hodgkins Il. Our office girl decided to leave us, and for what was being handled there, it was just as easy to do things the way that we do them now. Most of the drivers live nearer to Kalamazoo than Niles anyhow, so we all just take the trucks home fulltime and it works fine.

We had the business over at Mennel Milling until they traded companies at the first of the year. But the loss of Mennel hasn't hurt any that I can see. as of right now, I'm projecting my income to be up significantly over last year.

You must be somewhere nearby to me. I live near Lawrence, x-52 on I-94.

Burky, today is my first day posting on this forum. Already, you, Turbo Trucker and several other posters have given me Million Dollar advice for FREE. I really appreciate the length you guys and gals go to in answering questions for all us newbies.

I quit the bar business just two months ago. After 35 years of deejaying, I've decided to change careers . . . eventhough I have job offers all over this town to work for other bars.

Recently, the best bouncer I ever worked alongside (he's dispatching for AAA at this moment) and I talked about learning to drive trucks. We then started talking to truckers around town and discovered there is a big need for team drivers who can go out for longer periods of time.

My question to you is, do you think a company such as yours has use for team drivers? And if not, do you know of any great firms you would recommend for teams?

Also, I appreciate the fact you are supportive of the place you work. It is so good to read an uplifting comment from a guy who is "doing it" without a bunch of whining about those mistakes and problems which will crop up in any job.

So, one last question to you, as I respect your wisdom thusfar, would you recommend a company or a vo tech school or a community college in which to train a couple of guys who always bring value to any company they work for and who love the idea of going out on the open road for days and nights with very few stops?

Thanks for any answer you or anyone here may provide.

This place is a treasure trove of real no b.s. info on the trucking biz. I love this forum. Thankfully, I found this place before sinking my dollars and time into any truck outfit or school which caught my eye first.

I plan to be moving to the Pittsburgh, PA area sometime next year, and Bulkmatic happens to be one of the companies that I plan to apply to, especially since I currently haul sand, cement, and flyash in pneumatic trailers. What I would like to know is :

    1) How busy is their Pittsburgh terminal ?
    2) What kind of hometime can one expect ?
    3) What's the pay structure ?
    4) Ideally, I prefer to unload by myself, since it affords me the opportunity to make more money, without having to drive hundreds of miles for the same amount of money. In my present job, I mainly run local, with up to 3 unloads every day. Does Bulkmatic offer anything similar ?

I sincerely look forward to your response. Thanks in advance.
