WEST CHESTER TWP. — National transportation company Jevic has announced it intends to close its West Chester Twp. facility in June.
The closing, announced last week, is expected to result in up to 104 lost jobs.
In a letter filed with the state, the Delanco, N.J.-based company did not specify why it is closing the facility at 3010 E. Crescentville Road. But company spokesman Peter Robinson said the move is part of company-wide streamlining efforts.
"We're still going to be picking up and delivering in Cincinnati, but we just don't need a facility there," he said.
He added the company is continuing to pay impacted employees for the next 60 days, and that some employees may be able to transfer to positions with the company's 10 other terminals nationwide.
"It's not like we're shutting down in panic mode," he said.
West Chester Twp. officials were notified Friday, April 4, of the closing. Township information officer Barbara Wilson said the township would help connect impacted employees with county employment assistance programs.
"We try and help out any way we can to connect them with job and family services," she said. http://www.journal-news.com/hp/conte...0908jevic.html | |
