Another sad day in the trucking industry has dawned. I hope the people that worked there are able to transition to somewhere else without too much hardship, just losing a job in this situation is hard enough.

The worst part of this is that the "president" is still saying that we are not in a recession and that everything is good

Yet here goes another large company under because of policies that he has adopted .... how many more need to go under before this government does something for the american truckers

The latest figures do not show our country to be in recession. To be in a recession you must have four (4) months of straight down turn, we have not even had two (2) months in a row of down turn ... Now, why would you want government to interfere with your life and " do something for the American trucker " ? We need less government not more ! Jevic going under is a very sad event brought about by many things including (but not limited to) high insurance and fuel. Jevic is not the first carrier to go under and they will not be the last.

Well Folks, It is OFFICIAL.. Jevic CLOSED it's doors today. It wiil honor immediate commitments only.. My friend is on her way back from cal. with a load to Chi town.. Unfortunately she lives in Cincy... she has to make her own way back from Chitown to Cincy.. Coulda been worse I reckon.. They coulda told her to find her own way back from Cal. Jevic says they will honor and pay all drivers what they have comin... and they want some to hang on till the end.. Personnaly, I think I would head over to New Century.. And the OLD OWNER of JEVIC>>LOL Ya'll drive safe and don't let em get ya down..:biggrin_255:

I never understood why everyone blames the president for the things that go wrong.. Yes I understand that he is the top dog.. and the buck does stop there in the end.... BUT... He is ONE person in the government.. He can ask for and sometimes get things done, but everyone keeps forgetting, that it really does take an act of congress to pass anything.. The texmex truckers was voted on and passed by members of congress.. and it wasn't even bush's idea.. came from someone else.. If ya stop and think about it, bush hasn't had more than one or 2 original ideas since he was a kid.. So if yer gonna blame someone, start with your congressman/woman.. And remember, you always have an opportunity to change what you don't like.. Just vote em outta office..
    Ya'll take care now...ya hear??

People feel the need to blame the president for everything because he is a republican and the democratic media has everyone convinced that Bush it to blame for everything from Katrina to oil prices. If the president were a democrat, everyone would be saying "Oh he's doing the best he can." While the president would be in the oval office flirting with interns so the drama would make everyone forget that economy sucks!

Sorry, didn't mean to turn this political.

This is the result of a free economy. Businesses will come and go, it's the nature of the beast. This company probably could have been saved but it's new parent corp didn't want to deal with it.

I heard on the Lockridge Report on Sirius channel 147 that Jevic had 2500 trucks including owner operators that were pulling for Jevic.

Sounds like there will be a flood of highly qualified and experienced drivers hitting the job market. I suspect many will try to get on with New Century or another reputable ltl carrier. Thats where the money is now a days. Jevic had some of the highest paid non-union drivers out there. This really stinks.

The owner ops will be scrambling for new homes as well I am sure.
