Dear Valued Jevic Customer: I regret to inform you that Jevic Transportation Inc. will be discontinuing operations. The current high fuel costs, economic downturn, increasing insurance costs, and tightening credit markets have made this decision necessary. Jevic will stop providing pickup service effective Monday 5/19/08. However, we will continue operating to deliver all freight within our system prior to closing.
Operations and Customer Service:
Jevic will not be accepting pickup requests after Friday 5/16/08 and the web and EDI pickup functions will be disabled.
We will continue to provide Customer Service through the wind down period. We ask that you please utilize the automated voice response system as much as possible as the number of calls is expected to be high and there will be longer hold times.
The Jevic website will remain active and will be updated during the period as well and that should be your primary point of contact for tracing and needed documentation.
We greatly appreciate the loyalty of our many Jevic customers. It has been our pleasure to provide solutions to your transportation needs over these many years. We are committed to providing the prompt delivery of your shipments in our system and professional customer service for all your needs during this process. Thank you again.

Sincerely,
David H. Gorman
President and CEO

Wow! just like that!
Peeps, get ready, this is just the beginning. I hope everyone has somewhere to go. Get somewhere and hunker down.
This is not the last company to fall victim to the times.

Man, I think Sarge is right...I'm just getting started in the industry and already the almost daily rising price of diesel has me concerned! What the %$#* is going on in this Country? People are just sitting back and accepting this! I think we as Americans need to go on a gas strike and send a serious message to these oil companies. Imagine this...as crazy as it may sound...if everyone in this Country would NOT BUY FUEL for 1 day imagine the shockwave that would send through the system? Ah, that's just my 2 cents. Hey, unions can go on strike for unfair wages and that seems pretty darn effective! These oil companies got the upper hand and it seems as if everyone is just layin' back and dealing. Get the KY dear...it just went up 10 more cents!!

Nope, I think we as Americans need to wake up to the fact. The free ride is over.

Market controls pricing. We couldn't really expect 3rd world countries, to remain 3rd world players. With China on line, and they are make no mistake, it (gas) will only go higher.

China's expected growth is 12% annually for the next 15-20 years. Analyst have projected at this rate, China will require ALL availiable oil on the market to maintain this growth, within 10 years.

People whine about it taking 10 years to get results out of areas we want to drill. NOW is the time to start...not later.

Meeting for Jevic’s dislocated workers being held Tuesday in New Jersey
5/23/08
Quote:
A meeting to provide services for Jevic’s dislocated workers has been set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 27 at One Stop Career Center, 795 Woodlane Road, first floor conference room, in Westampton, N.J., stated a notice posted on Jevic’s Web site today.

Jevic announced May 19 it was going out of business and late the following day filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Today's posting also said that all employees are being paid for time worked. Those with direct deposit prior to May 16 had their paychecks deposited “as usual” in their bank accounts.

Employees without direct deposit who did not manually process their check last week, or if their bank held their check, are having a new check issued and will receive it next week, the site stated.

“Under the law, Jevic was forced to switch bank[s] so any check that was ‘in process’ on Monday did not get paid,” it said.

Accrued vacation will be paid out over the next six weeks, beginning with next week’s paycheck, the site stated. And, “this week and moving forward all paychecks are paper checks and will be mailed to employees’ addresses on file with human resources/payroll.”

Also, workers displaced by the Jevic closure “could be eligible for free classes at Burlington Community College,” according to the posting.

Why does every trucking company that goes out of business cite fuel and insurance costs as the reason for going out of business?

They should just say the truth which was poor management of the company. Everyone is paying high fuel and insurance costs, so why aren't they all shutting down If it is for reasons not unique to Jevic.

The state is investigating why they did not give notice to the employees of the impending closer. Which I guess is against the law in their state.

How can people say a company is great and treats their employees good etc.. when they don't even have the decency to tell their own employees that they are in trouble and may go under?

Jevic is just another OTR company that serviced the customer to the end, at the expense of their own

Well to my surprise the brothers I know who drove Jevic for 10 years or so had a couple Zumstein rigs at their place this weekend (west cental OH ). Man that was quick. Trucking is unpredictable.
