I got a job offer from Apollo transfer today. Just wondering if anyone has heard of them? They deliver semi's and box trucks for companies like penske, budget, etc. Its class B or non-CDL. Ive heard some bad things about driveaway but I still wanted to hear some more opinions. Thanks.

It's up to YOU to figure out how to deliver the vehicle, THEN, find your OWN transportation to wherever your next vehicle is (and YOU have to find another vehicle that needs to be moved too!!)

LOL!!! No doubt. I was approached in Bloomsburg, PA a few weeks back by a mature fellow who was working for a similar company moving similar trucks. He wanted my take; he needed to know what he was doing wrong as he consistently lost money during his limited time there. I explained the situation and 'history' of modern truck driveaway. I advised that he go find something else to do....:biggrin_25524:

Yep. The fellow I spoke with in Bloomsburg had purchased a towbar from his new employer but didn't have a clue on how to install it. He stated it was well over a week before someone helped him install the contraption properly.

He stated some contracts would pay a $40 motel 'credit' for every 1,000 routed miles but most didn't offer this 'perk'. Some contracts paid for all or part of the fuel while others didn't.

He stated the one trip he almost made money on he ignored advice and lost money. It was a long trip to the PNW; he was told to not tow his ride but to buy a cheap plane ticket back east. He decided to 'tow' anyway hoping to get a truck going back east, thus getting paid both ways.

He stated he waited for nearly five days until a suitable 'trip' was located in Southern California, about 900 miles away. He stated he ended up loosing money overall on both trips.

I still remember CB 'jockeys' trying to recruit drivers for Swift by telling everyone within earshot the trainees were paid $2,000 a week....:biggrin_25523:

It's like anything else in the transportation industry. It has to fit you. Maybe it was good or bad for me, unless they are actual thieves, it has to work out for you.

Like I tell drivers that want to know about scales, don't matter till your the one thats there reading the sign. But keep your eyes wide open all the time, if it feel bad it normally is.

I drove for Apollo in Denver for TWO days only strictly local work if you consider 3 hrs one way for one rental site local work. They have no one in Denver to dispatch for moving these Penske trucks. They dispatch everything from Tempe, AZ on Nextel radios and Penske is getting real tired of not having a manager/dispatcher in Denver. The things they don't tell you are astounding. The Penske people in the garage said they have seen at least 200 drivers come and go in the two years that Apollo has had the Denver contract. You can make the $$ they say but you have to work 14-18 hours a day (and that's against DOT regs. But no logs required) and that's only if there are trucks to move. There is no hourly but only piece work. We sat for two hours the first day waiting for 5:00 to come so we could go home. I started at 7:00 and MIGHT have made $50 that day. At 5:00 we were told they had two trucks to move. Now you move a truck and only get paid by the number of miles you move it and no deadhead pay at all. I was told we could go to Ft Collins (60 miles one way) and move a truck one mile and not get paid for the time up or the time back. You only get paid for moving that truck one mile. You can go to Minturn which is in the mountains west of Vail...over 100 miles and only get paid one way if there isn't a truck going or coming back. Apollo also lost a $5,000,000 contract in Chicago because of the way they operate. From someone who's been there ******STAY AWAY FROM APOLLO******

Dang, the transport company I worked for sounds like a dream compared to this one! They took care of my transportation to the next pick up and from my drop offs! Had to have a class A though, as they moved anything and everything. They even had me pick up a mercedes in Birmingham and drive it down to West Palm! That was a sweet ride! Then I got a rental car home! The flew me out to places for pick ups most of the time.
