    Hey All,

I'm at the Roadmaster school in Columbus and the recruiter from Stevens was here yesterday. He made Stevens sound like God's Gift to Trucking.

Anyone have any experience with them?

    Thanks!!! -Willy

Go to the DAC section of this site and you can read several things. Also do a search on Stevens and it will give you more info.

All recruiters can make their company sound like gods gift to truckers...

Stevens is a training company first and foremost.. They will put you through the wringer more than once, treat you like a number, or letters, your driver code is letters, they could care less about your personal needs, or if you have a head on your shoulders.

You will go through three days of paper work, and "classes", then maybe they will hire you and you will make $50 per day while training...being used as a log book by a lease operator so he can make his obligations to the company. This lasts for 5 weeks or more. Then you come back for 5 more days of "classes", and are paired up with another student for 21 days. Refered to lovingly as the dumb and dumber stage.

Then, if you have put up with the constant calling in, the constant Qualcom messages, and all the restrictions and bull crap you have put up with, then you will go solo at 26 cents a mile, and still be treated like a 2nd grader that can not read a map, or find an interstate.

all there trucks are governed at 62 now.

Out of my orientation class of 62 people, I know of 6 people who are now solo. Only 40-45 people were put on payroll, and by Orientation 2, the second week of classes, there were 12.

From a Grad one driver, still putting up with the bull, but looking else where

Thanks for all the info, guys. Seems like when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is... :)

I'll pass this info along to my fellow classmates. If anyone else has any insight, it would be much appreciated!

Just understand that, to work for the better companies, you have to put your time in. All the "training" companies have more issues than others. Part of that is because they do not want to invest a lot into drivers who may find after a few months that truck driving is not like getting into an RV and seeing the sights. There is work involved. Some would say that, if these companies treated drivers better those drivers would stick around. On the other hand, they really do the industry a favor by weeding out the ones who would probably always be a problem here. Some people, though they may have dreamed about it all their lives, are not cut out for this industry. Let them come check it out. If they really are cut out for it they will survive the first few years with the "training" companies and move forward with their careers. If they are not, they will jump ship and do something else, or continue to try trucking but never find their "pot of gold". Trucking is like any other job in this one way, it is what YOU make of it. You can work for the worst company but do well just by having the right attitude and work ethic. Should you stay with that "worst" company if you can move? Probably not, but don't burn bridges when you leave. Burnt bridges are alway a problem that can come back to bite you. Always be the better person, leave in a professional manner and treat that company professionally after leaving. That shows more about your good character than anything else.

After you do your training with Steven's and drive for about 8 mo's total you can go lease operator if you think your ready and they think so too. I was in contact with a guy who did just that a month ago and he's so busy he don't have time to call.

They run all refers. Good look'n trucks.

Hope this helped. It should have.
