Sounds great. I still recommend Schneider. You can still change down the road after you fulfill the training. Honestly those four companies you listed have horrible reputations of destroying a new driver. Nothing you will learn from them will make your first year any better. Many that sign with those companies for training dont even make it to the 1 year mark due to the sour taste they can leave. Seriously all companies will have happy and unhappy drivers to talk to and honestly most large training companies are the same. I base my recommendation on the reputation of their schooling and training given to new drivers. They are very thorough and by the time you graduate you will have been properly trained.

If you need training and that one year of exp. seriously consider avoiding refer companies , lease purchase scam companies or companies that have a serious track record of mistreating drivers.

There may be more commpanies fitting to you besides schneider but I dont have first hand knowledge of them.

Just want to emphasize most of all that the four companies listed by you in your first post should be the BOTTOM four not the top. I will vouch for that.

there are several job sites you can check out for information and availabilty of companies. most do have a section that lists for drivers with little or no experience.

I've posted this quite abit, but check into Willis Shaw Express. I'm going to start training with them on 7JUL08. They have a spot in the DAC report threads and mostly good reviews overall. I've even went as far as to visit with some truckers with Choctaw, Martin, PAM and a local oilfield company. All who are familiar with WSE said I made a good choice in going with them as a starter company for noobs. Apparently the training is good and their trucks and equipment are new. My experience with the recruiter has thus far been positive. Though she has been busy, she never fails to return my calls and give me honest answers. Good luck....

Jack Frost - what gives, sounds like you're giving up? You've been at this trucking thing for 8 years and should know ALOT more then most of us doing the posting. Who are you driving for? The next post mentioned Willy Shaw. Seen the trucks, know nothing about them. how about you?

I really dounderstand how this forums work and that only half is really believable. One guy wrote that the good drivers are out drivin' not writin'!

Well almost did, it was too long a drive from Enid in the early 80's. Why did you pick Shaw and where is the driving school training taking place? I went to their website and really can't find much. They don't seem to have their own school. I have a daughter in Tulsa so could run out of OK if needed to.

i never give up, i just abide by the rules and follow the laws of the land. i'm new here so i am still learning what is acceptable to post and what isn't. i will have to ask if i can send info in pm's. the 8 years i got are recent , before that i took a year and a half off from trucking cause i just got burned out from the previous driving years and was tired of all the mess we put up with that is unessassary to make a living.

I am very happy with Werner, I don't really like ANY of the choices you gave. But regardless you won't be thrown into a truck right out of school you will go out with a trainer and they will teach you what you will need to know about reefers if you chose that route... if you are lucky.

I drove for Swift to start with a few years ago. Have been off the road a couple of years but in that time have driven belly dumps and school busses. Now I am going back to the road and jsut got my invite to Prime orientation. After extensive research on the companies that hire in my area, they appear to be the best. They have a great reputation among their current drivers and seem to care about the drivers. From what I found in researching, this may not have always been the case.

As for starting on reefers, it is not that bad. Prime has these intellisets which are supposed to make reefer operation easier as they are preset programs based on what you are hauling. You tell the control module what the load is, like ice cream, and it has a pre-determined cycle it runs. When I was with my mentor at Swift, I ran reefers. They are a little work but Prime, for example, teaches you about it in orientation.

Have you driven for any of those companies or are you just repeating what you have heard others say? Schneider has a pretty bad reputation according to some. There is a current thread in the "bad company" area which tells of how they screw drivers.
