May I put in my 2 cents worth in recommending chemical hauling. We have several female drivers, including one who is just a wee mite, and they do fine.

What I like most about it is the fact that I very seldom have to deal with idiots. Most folks involved with chemicals know their stuff pretty well. I have the authority (and the co always backs me) to stop a delivery if the reciever is being a doofus or they have some inept kid.

I actually prefer to deal with the more dangerous chemicals because nobody messes around with them. I don't want to lose my life because of carelessnesss on someone else's part.

Actually, that's why I quit fuels. The general public has no clue about how dangerous gasoline and diesel fuels are. Your average gas/fuel station is a horrible accident waiting to happen. Seen that and it ain't pretty.

Does anyone have any experience with compressed gas tankers such as the ones used to haul propane, LPG, and or Anhydrous Ammonia

yes I have pulled bottles and just about any thing that goes in a tank I prefer oil field work but what would you like to know
propane/ butane is very clean and simple anhydrous can kill ya if your not paying attention

it does help if one has good basic math skills if you want to do tank work

This is what can happen if you don't vent a tank before unloading. This one is empty with a vacum put on it but imagine one with a load of some really nasty chemicals.

im sorry about that i was wondering more about loading/ unloading procedures, what kind of places does this product get picked up at and delivered to, what kind of equipment is required on the truck and how do you use it. i have been looking into this niche and just trying to get an idea about what all is involved. and also why are the trailers so expensive even when they are something years old.

loading and unloading is very simple

    loading

pull up to the rack vent the lines ground the unit hook up lines open valves and close the vent line and start the pump
fill it up to the required percentage shut of pump close the fill lines and trailer valves vent lines unhook
    that's it
unloading is about the same most refineries use a hot vapor to help push it off
now if you are delivering to a remote local you will use the pump on the unit and it takes a long time if you have a whole bottle to empty

no tanks are cheap and bottles are very strong as the are a pressure vessel and must hold a 150psi plus and be tested annually they are also very heavy truck and an empty bottle used to tare about 45k

if you are thinking of getting in to the biz make sure you are aware of all the costs as many of the things involved are very costly a hose can run
    $ 500 plus

the surge depends mostly on how they built the bottle don't get one any bigger than what you need and make sure it is baffled and its not bad at all

most gasses you can just vent it out and flip the signs but some will require cleaning and that is not cheap
when I used to pull bottles anhydrous ones where dedicated to nothing but that
also if you are thinking about buying any tank make sure it is in or will test as one that won't is worthless
