US Xpress has improved somewhat from what they used to be, but I'll not inject my opinion into it. My personal involvement with them is a few years outdated anyway. I was leased on with one of their sister companies several years ago.

They do have top-knotch equipment, and all their trucks are equipped with automatic transmissions, which is fine and dandy, until you decide to go to another company, because for some reason, there are companies out there that seem to hold the opinion that once you have driven for US Xpress, you are totally unqualified to operate a traditional standard shift truck again.

They are safety conscience, and will cut you loose for the slightest of reasons, including a fender bender. If you can get on with them in a dedicated capacity, you'll be far happier than running their national board.

My take on US Express

I tried to get on with US Express back in '99, but couldn't. They wouldn't hire me on because I was a college student. I had planned on working for them during the summer months (May-August) and the x-mas breaks (three weeks in December), but (understandably) they would have none of it. What pissed me off was their "leading me around" for about a week and giving me nothing to show for it in the end.

Although I told the recruiter at USX up front all about my situation, and he said "no problem", I got a gatekeeper's nose turned up at me at the end of orientation. Actually, the gatekeeper had turned up his nose by Wednesday during that orientation, but the dysfunctional orientation crew didn't tell me until the Friday afternoon I wasn't hired. They played games and sent me signals, like not assigning me a truck while everyone else got a truck, instead of just telling me on that Wednesday "We don't want you." I wasted a week at the SLC terminal because of this. I've not thought much of US Express since. I wouldn't apply with them again, either.

Hey bud, how much experience driving do you have currently? Most people don't even think about the other set of red trucks out there (no not CR England either..the OTHER set)

Might I suggest you call Knight transportation. they do the whole 48 but 70 percent is below I-70 and if you are wanting to just be a company driver they are good outfit.

Owner op or L/P..well..depends on your experience and what you are looking for.

Stay away from CR england..I never drove for them, but have heard plenty of horror stories from those that have.

Re: please help

US Express must have turned their trucks up or something. I have seen a few lately that I had a hard time keeping up with them anymore.

US Xpress Transportation

Humm im not sure where this particular thread should go but i just wanted to put out a bit of New News about US Xpress...

I was recently at a USX terminal in OKC and was hanging out with one of my buddies in the shop and he showed me something that i havent heard anything about yet..

i think its called the Qualcomm OmniVision

I heard its suppost to be scheduled for Installation in the Entire Fleet in 2 months all 7,700 trucks i think they are doing it for arnold and Total transportation of Mississippi as well not sure but we do own controlling intrest in both companies..

Any way they are pearty neto thingies... lol... its perty large and replaces the MobilMax and Qualcomm with this Large Touch Screen only Thing.. works about the same but it also Gives us GPS turn by Turn Directions (audioable as well) to the shipper and consignee, tracks us the same as the old units but with 1 specific difference..

IT Competely Logs and Tracks in its logbook program everything the truck does and i was told that we are not Switching to paperless logging system but i was informed that the Safety dept will be using our new and improved "big brother" to check our logs against.. its not bad enough that USX Safety Pulls the following.. Prepass, Fuel, Pikepass, Sunpass, EZpass, Indiana Toll Credit Card, And ohio Credit Card and Checks them randaemly against our logs and DOES place Drivers on Probation for being out of Regulation...

But that 1 negative fact aside.. that thing according to the Qualcomm website can do games,
*TV soon i think,
*Internet At the moment its just Email but qualcomm's website mentoned something about Wi Fi and working on internet as well as changing the Price from Charging per Character typed to a flat rate,
* also Wireless Broad Casts.. where a Trucking company can do a Meeting or Safety class and then broadcast it to the entire fleet..

one of the shop guys said that the EatonVorad is connected to the new video camera system and that camera system is hooked into the new Qualcomm(what negative ramifications for this i dont know but i have some ideals)

Also USX i heard is going to be installing Cameras in the Front of the Trucks i guess this will Assist in Accident Reconstruction which is also Aided by the Eaton VORAD(which stands for Vehicle on board Radar) that tracks up to 50 vehicles arround the truck at a time an is recorded into the black box on all the trucks..

Thats about it I will Update the Post when i get one in my truck and i will go searching the web for the site where i got the info on the new Qualcomm OmniVision

*as for the Information about USX other than it being installed in 2 weeks and being able to give us GPS directions and log driver activities the rest is just hearsay
