Sounds like you're a shoe-in

Sounds like you're in, Gecko. Man, I can't emphasize how much power guys like you have. You aren't quite the PERFECT newbie, as you do have a violation on your record, but you're damn close. You definitely don't have to settle for a Swift or a J.B. Hunt is what I'm saying, and you should be thankful for that. No, don't settle for being some huge-antic's grease rag.

Let me know how this goes with CCC. I'm returning to the USA soon and may go to Crete's school for re-training. I think I'll have to return to a school if I get my CDL back and jump back into driving. Also, let me know when you're heading to Lincoln, assuming you will. It's a long-shot, but we may see each other there.

Yeah I drive a Swift truck
And that means one thing
It means she's slow
It's a typical company truck
It's just all show and no go

I'm gettin' passed by Yella
And even Overnite
I'm gettin' passed by ever' body in sight
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

No, my hometown's nowhere in sight
And if you think I'm pissed off
You're right
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

Love pissing off those trucking company insiders.

Re: Sounds like you're a shoe-in

Cool, I'll try.
Yeah the speeding ticket was a dumb one.
I had been driving since like 3:30 in the morning, over 1000 miles behind me, was within 75 miles or so of Hot Springs on some little two lane road near Fort Smith, stuck behind some old lady doing 10 under the limit. So being the genious I am I stood on it, and just as I am doing about 75 in the 55 limit, in the left lane passing, out in the distance comes a State Trooper............
He didn't care about my story.
Oh well, I deserved it.

Re: Swift for a newbie?

Somewhere on the 1st page of this post a guy says he went thru the Lease program at Swift,2 yrs.ago.truck is almost paid for,and it is governed at 72 MPH.Well guess what Swift governs O/O trucks 65 MPH,just like their co.trucks, and lease trucks.Something fishy here. From what I heard about their lease program,it would take several yrs.to pay one off,at payments that were a way too high.A guy I know there had a 2 yr.old KW900,had been paying $600.a week payments for 2 yrs.on it and still owed $65,000.on it.That doesnt sound very reasonable to me.If I owned my own truck I would never lease it to a co.that governed it.In Dec.of 1994 I bought a brand new truck from a reputible dealer and financed it thru my bank.Cost of truck was $85,000,make and model makes no difference here.Note was for 7 yrs.payments were $1200.a month. It was leased to a good Co.MS Carriers. They licensed my truck,pd.for permits, tolls, scales, etc. They also got me a good deal on insurance.I paid it off in a little over 3 yrs.I have never seen a lease purchase program that was even close to being fair to the driver.I am not saying there are no good plans out there, but my advice is BEWARE.

Re: I need the scoop on Swift Transportation Company

Hey Stonewall, stay away from Swift,I speak from experience. If you are gonna start with a large co.think about Schneider, they seem to have a good reputation.I have talked with some of their drivers and they seem happy driving for them. And to Juststartin the same thing, yes I am sure there are some very good small companies out there. As far as schooling is concerned ,if you can swing it do it on your own,get a student loan or whatever and go to a good school.Try not to get yourself into having to drive for someone to fulfill a contract.I am presently driving for Roehl Transport, and although I have had one issue with them, they are a very good company.I know very little about their training program, but I would reccomend checking them out.And last but not least check out the posts on this site,a lot of good opinions here.
