Re: Is Swift for sale?

Some thing about one of the original share holders that started Swift bought up a bunch/majority stake of the shares making him a controlling owner.

Re: Is Swift for sale?

Swift isn't for sale, but Jerry Moyes, the founder and deposed chairman, has offered to buy all outstanding stock, to regain full control of the company.

It's being considered, and it probably will happen, IF he can actually come up with the money to do it.

The reason why he is trying to do it, is because the company is a cash cow, and most of us know why that is. The way that company has been ran, it has been a haven for slave labor type tactics, and he wants that cash cow back.

Subtle changes that the current board has made, gave that company for the first time in many years, an opportunity to improve. Jerry Moyes doesn't like that, so he wants it back. As a shareholder, albeit a major one, he's lost a bunch of his income.

Can't have that, now can we? So he'll buy it if he can, and reinstitute things the way they were, so he can make those big bucks again.

Any driver who works there, ought to be making plans to move on down the highway, in someone else's truck. It's not a good thing that he wants to take control of things again.

Catprint Red Swift Buying out PTL???

My Husband was in a truck stop in Perryville, Maryland? when another driver told him about Swift buying out PTL. Has anyone heard of this. The driver told my Husband that drivers were quiting on the spot. It seemed a bit far fetched to me but I was wondering if anyone else had heard about the new "Gossip" news???

Swift and or Werner what's so bad?

What is it exactly about Swift, and or, Werner that's bad for a new driver who already has their CDL? I know there's plenty of threads ripping into both of these companies. However, for a newbie what's better?

I realize neither of these companies pay well. But, for a newbie fresh out of school no company is going to pay. I also realize home time is going to suck. But, here again for a newbie; Where can we go to get decent home time? I also am aware that it's much worse for a person trying to get a CDL through these companies. However, for someone like myself who already has a CDL, this would not be a concern. Is it the long hours waiting on loads? Where can a guy go where this does not happen? So if pay, home time, layovers, and contractual agreements don't apply; What does? Where can a new guy go where these are not an issue.

How bad is the pay? Or, the lack of home time. Are we talking about $500 a week for 10-14 days out OTR. Maybe it's worse. Is it 1-2 days a month at home? Are these the only companies where you wait long hours for loads?

I'm asking because it just seems these are the only places to go. I hope i'm wrong but I don't know. I'm trying to wait it out and hopefully something better comes along.

Keep waiting....and reading

If you really want a good company to work for, you'll have to dig and dig, not to mention wait. Be patient. Jobs at Swift and England are easy to get because those companies suck. It really is as simple as that. Drivers don't hang around there long, so they're always in the hiring mood.

Dive into your phone book and you may find something. I found two companies doing that, but I did have a year's experience.

Nothing worth having will come easy. Everybody wants a piece of that, so it's tough. Follow the herd and avoid the bad apples that will hire you at the drop of a hat.

Yeah I drive a Swift truck
And that means one thing
It means she's slow
It's a typical company truck
It's just all show and no go

I'm gettin' passed by Yella
And even Overnite
I'm gettin' passed by ever' body in sight
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

No, my hometown's nowhere in sight
And if you think I'm pissed off
You're right
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

Love pissing off those trucking company insiders.
