Help 2 Swift Transportation Company, Inc. - Phoenix, Az.?

I've been contacted by a recruiter for Swift. They've offered to send me to CDL school. But are they a good company to work for? Anybody out there that has worked for them? Thanks for the info!

Please take the time to read posts in this forum, as well as posted links in this forum to other places on the web that should give you the information you are seeking.

Is Swift a good company to work for? I don't know from firsthand experience, but I will tell you this as an experienced driver, and after having investigated the company for myself. I wouldn't give them the time of day. I certainly would not recommend them to newbies.

There are much better options out there, with far less chances of you having wasted your time with that sub-standard company. Please take the time to read what has been posted, so that you can see some of those better options. If you still have questions, please offer them. Many people are here that can offer good advice and insight.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply TT. I've been reading some of the posts here and from what I've gathered, they aren't a good company to work for. I read an article in the Greensboro, NC News & Record a couple of weeks ago about the trucking industry being desperately in need of drivers. You'd think these shoddy companies would try to straighten their act. Thanks again!

As far as swift goes I would say keep looking for the simple reason they are at the bottom of the barrel as far as a decent company to work for....

Swift for a newbie?

I have read many of the posts on this site, in most of the catagories that relate to someone wanting to enter the profession, but am still a little confused.
Being that I live in Colorado Springs, which is only 70 miles from Denver, it appears that there aren't many carriers out there that are willing to hire someone fresh out of school in this area. The United States Truck Driving School pushes Swift and Werner. They both apparently have hubs in the Denver area.
My question to you folks is what would you do? Go to school (which I will probably end up doing but paying cash so I can avoid the interest) and sign on with one of these two companies, tough it out for a year or two and then move up?
Or is there a better idea out there?
I know not much good has been said about Werner and absolutely nothing good has been said about Swift. But what do I do?
I wrote to Roehl a few days ago as they are located near where I have family and they aslo do their own schooling, but they haven't responded.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Swift for a newbie?

if you have your CDL, go Call Central refrigerated, or visit their website...

If you have CDL, they will ship you to salt lake for 2 or 3day orientation, then 4weeks in a truck with a trainer unless you have some otr exp, then you might get out with 2 weeks.

If you need CDL, central will send you to one of their schools, one in GA one in NY, I attended NY school being as i lived in the area, I did not stay in them but I guess the facilities are decent and the school has GREAT instructers.
$3000 for school, $1200 if you stay with company for a year...

Cool Re: Swift for a newbie?

ok man here is the scoop. you will come to find, either way that every company has its good and bad points.for instance swift has the freight to get you out to make your money and also get you home. I have currently been with swift trans.2 years joined there owner op DiV, and almost have my truck paid for, also I make a great income and get plenty of home time. I think any truck driver would tell you the same thing. dont listen to what other ppl say about a company till you have tried it out you may deside to stay.swift gets alot of bad feed back because we have so many new drivers.and we have acsidents also alot of people get fired or quit and bad mouth us on 19.but the guys who have been there a few years do well.for me as an owner op my truck runs 72 mhp and i get 89 cpm per loaded mi. my operating cost is 1100 mi a week after that all my expenses are paid. I make between 1000 and 1500 a week as a solo. thats with my taxes and 6 cpm going into my mtn, acount for repairs.

sorry but this sounds like a post from a swift recruitier or the like......If hundreds of people are saying swift is a rip off you need to take that into consideration, they can't all be WRONG.
