Anyone have anything on Dillon Transport (tankers - asphalt)? They advertising arround Chicago, offering 60k a year an average driving locally. Equipment seems very nice. How are they work for? Long hours?

They have a terminal in Michigan City,IN,nice looking Petes.I do LTL P&D and I pick up and deliver the rollers used to crush the rock used to make asphalt.

My company picks up the rollers in Louisville,KY from an asphalt equipmment supplier and I take them to a heat treater in Hammond,,IN where they harden the outer surface of these steel rollers.

These rollers are various sizes from 1' to 3' diameter and 1'to 3' wide with a shaft in the middle, and they put 2 to 4 of them on a skid weighing one to four thousand pounds.

The problem I have with this account is the heat treater does not have a dock, and I can't get my pallet jack under the skids the way the boards are spaced and we have to use a chain to drag them off. Then when I pick them up they put they have to put them on the back of my trailer all on one side so I can work around them.

It's getting to be a real PITA,and I have told the loaders at my terminal to put these on skids I can get my jack under, but they couldn't care less.I wish I could load my own truck.

So now I have to remember to take empty skids with me every day as I go to this customer 2 or 3 times a week,as it only takes them a day or two to heat treat these parts. When I deliver these parts I give them my empty skids to put these parts on for when I pick them up.

Well it all came to a head this past Fiday when I was there loading along side another LTL carrier and they loaded him with one of the skids I had given them and gave me a skid I couldn't get my jack under, WTF!!!.They told me they ran out of skids.

So I had a talk with the heat treater and he said he will call the shipper and see if they can put them on skids I can get my jack under(like that's gonna happen).

Sorry for the rant, just another day in the life of a P&D driver.

As for Dillon I guess if you don't want to drive in the winter it would be the perfect job, seeing how asphalt plants around here are closed for many months in the winter.

Superior safety ratings! They have had an upturn in their DriverSEA over the last year or so. It seems to coincide with an increase in power units over the same period. Maybe they've hired new drivers who have not gotten use to the system yet. I dunno, I'm a wannabe. Best guess: They are pretty picky about who they hire.

Never driven for Dillon but as far as Ease stated if you can afford to sit for $450 a week during the winter and run your but off in the Summer then they are the perfect Company for you
