I talked to a driver at the Springville Utah Flying J. I was driving through and saw his WEL truck. He was getting ready to pull out. He said he has been with WEL for 3 months. He said he likes it and makes decent money. His previous truck broke down during a run. The only thing they had to give him was a brand new Kenworth. Nice truck. He said he was hired just after they lowered the pay. I hope things improve and the pay goes back up. Anyway it was nice to be able to get a couple opinions on WEL Co. Once again talking to a driver pays off. I'm scheduled to start Aug 2nd. I have another offer from another company, but they don't let you take the trucks home and routing is fixed so I couldn't go off the beaten path to stop off at home if I happen to be close. Keep it safe.

Hey Higgie, are you still out there? I have another question. I was reading a thread on a different company that the driver was complaining about unreasonable delivery times. He said the company was requiring a 7 hour delivery time when the run was actually a 13 hour run time then the company charged him $50. for a late delivery. Does WEL charge you for late deliveries? Do they give you unreasonable delivery times trying to push you to run illegal?

I can't say yes or no to that. It has never happened to me. If I have something that I can not make I let my driver manager know immediately and the ask for my eta. Then it is rescheduled around that time. Could I see that happening if the driver wasn't bright enough to let someone know they couldn't make it, yes possibly and I wouldn't blame them. Should the planners have caught that, absolutely. But with so many loads things slip by. We got a peoplenet message yesterday saying that if our hrs aren't up to date with our driver manager we wouldn't be dispatched. If we got a load we couldn't legally do to make our driver manager aware asap.

I just spent a couple of days at our corporate office in De Pere,Wi. My trk needed service and I did a restart. Plus a safety meeting and my new medical card. While up there I was BS'ing with the different departments and from what I heard they are addressing the issues other drivers have complained about. Everyone in the offices were being refrained on the hours of services rules based around E-logs. If they plan loads based on E-logs that should help end some of the tight runs and scheduling issues.

Higgie, I know WEL does $0.10 per diem. How does this work? Do they pay you on your payroll check? Separate check? Do they pay you on a credit card account? Can you use the per diem for personal use or is it strictly for business expense?

    Thanks again.

I really don't know, I have never worried over it. Probably should but....

Its one of those things I don't sweat, my wife said its in the check. She keeps up with it. I send her all my load info and she compares the checks with what I send her. Being out a month at a time its easier for her to stay on top of it instead of me trying to catch up when I get home. She doesn't work and is an accountant so its right up her alley. I'm staying out 6 weeks this trip and with so much to do when I get home I won't have time when I get there. I keep up with my scales and other expenses out here and she will watch for the reimbursement on my checks.
