My first ever driving job was for an outfit called Morgan Driveaway.
They were based in Indiana somewhere.
I don't even know if they're still around anymore.
This was back in the late 70's or so.
I delivered RV's to dealerships throughout the western states.
I didn't even have a CDL at the time.
Most of the drivers were retired guys on soc. sec.
whose kids were grown and on their own.
I was the only youngster in the group.
I slept in the RV but couldn't use the appliances, etc.
Morgan even paid for some of the fuel back then.
I did it for one summer and had a lot of fun seeing much of
the west for the first time.
As for profits they were slim, expenses high, and bills soon
began piling up.
Hence I got my CDL and went on to greener pastures.
I wouldn't touch that gig again with a tenfoot pole.

on way to cut expenses is to puy a discovery pass from greyhound for $560. You can get on as many buses as you want and go where you want for 2 months. Considering I spent $332 on bus tickets my first week out, thats a hell of a good deal.

Well, thanks Rick, seeing as though I just signed on here. Generally I don't get into blogging because wisecrack sarcasm...especially when one is approaching a subject in a sincerely professional manner, trying to obtain some information for myself...YOUR sarcasm is part of the reason why the "days of my dad and uncles" are non-existant. I'm assuming you're the same guy who sit in a truck stop at 3am shouting a bunch of BS across the radio, just to get people going. My advise: GROW UP. PLEASE?! We are all free to say what we please, yes, but I wasn't asking for shod remarks about how old the conversation is or what my post is. Help the question, not create the problem. I welcome any insight you may have regarding previous mentioned subject I was questioning...otherwise, I am NOT here to see who wears the bigger britches. I'm merely seeking info, not starting a Southpark skit. Thanks for your wise help! Be safe.

Yeah, I figd that cost goes up, rates don't. I almost expected that! I was just looking for some low. reviews on this particular aspect of the industry-1, which to start, I'm NOT impressed with, and 2-the co. that's pressing me, to see if I can benefit. I don't have the family thing to make sure I need to be home this day...or for this event..! So I don't mind running, but seems also, a lotta these 'guys' here are older, 30+yr drivers that have $$$ put away. I don't have that luxury. But Thanks!
