Why would you want to work in the foodservice industry and not WANT to work? Maybe that's why your yard got shut down?

I usually don't run, I stack smart and keep moving. I only run for the sake of getting home earlier, not to stay in my windows.

Any current info on US Foodservice? I have an interview tomorrow and think the job is completely local according to the ad. I know it is hard work. If it is going to kill me, though, it would not be worth it and I'm in pretty good shape.

When I was younger I had a job for a short while once delivering shingles and involved carrying those heavy shingle bundles across angled rooftops. I don't know if I stayed with it long enough for my body to adjust, but I do remember being so sore every day it was akin to torture and by the time I got to sleep it was time to get up and go at it again. And I did spend a year in Iraq in 2006 and that was probably even more intense, as far as lack of sleep goes, but it was more driving than physical labor. Though we did our share of that also.

They are like SYGMA, you will bust your ###, but not as much. USF here in LA/SoCal is Teamsters, they make about 18/hr starting out. We've (SYGMA SoCal) have had drivers come from USF and go back to them. Out here, they are pretty tough to get into - so, if I were you, I'd go for it - you can make $$, excellent benefits, you will definitely earn it, and your schedule will vary as the new guy.

Comm Driver - follow-up on US Foods - yeah, local delivery to restaurants; maybe a 2 wheeler down a ramp or electric pallet jack - either way, you will touch every case. SYGMA does lay over routes, I'm not sure about USF where you are. Give it a shot, at least then you will know if the food service industry is for you. I wish I didn't have to leave SYGMA - I'll be hard pressed to get the same $$ OTR...

Thanks for the info. Hourly may be higher out there because of the cost of living in CA. I'll found out tomorrow what it is here. And of course, I'm just in the interview process. Hopefully, it will go well from here.

There is something wrong with their application process. Before you get called in for an interview, you fill out a lengthy application online, with the 10 years work history and all that.

When I went in for the interview I was handed a huge stack of paper and told to to sit down and fill it out. I said I could just print off the app I filled out online. The security guard said, no, you have to fill all this out. Ten years of work history, multiple release forms to be signed etc. IMO, this is unnecessary. They could at least accept the printed form of what you already filled out online.

Here in OKC, they pay about 15/hr with extra 2 per hour that they said most drivers get for performance.

Don't take it personally man, that's the way their system is designed. The online ap. goes through a third party screening company; the third party is the one that sends you forward to the DC you will interview at - you do the 'hard copy' for your DC because they don't have it; just the summary by the screening company. When the Lancaster,CA DC first opened up, the screening company was kicking back everyone unless you hadn't changed jobs in like 4 years and had everything else perfect...they had to have the screeners change the parameters...

If you said you couldn't do overnights...that was the reason...we deliver overnight and do a layover, so you are out on the route from leaving the yard Tuesday night until you return Thursday mid morning...for example.

Ok, thanks, I guess I did kind of take it personally. I still think they should come up with a way so you don't have to do that twice. I said I could do some overnights but have to get someone to look after my dog, but I said I could do it. They probably could foresee that becoming a problem. I'm sure a lengthy job history did not help either.
