Hate I missed you.... actually left out for Colorado Tuesday afternoon. Sorry

Not stuck in it, but in the true sense of lunacy, I am chasing it into NC.

I deliver from Colorado to Lumberton, NC Monday morning. Sorta watching what happens witht he weather. Right now I am shut down in Salina KS and will headed back out early early tomorrow morning. I am thinking I am going to run down the Mississippi river and punch out under the storm and then head east through Atlanta. Rainy yes, but Otis does well in the rain. Then I'll just pop up into Lumberton from the south.

And here is a pic of the offramp in Salina where I stopped tonight. I wasnt quite sure the truck in front of me was going to get stopped, so I pulled out the camera in anticipation of an "action shot".

Thank you Bud... I appreciate the kind words. You know, I feel that the way you approach ANYTHING is going to have a direct affect on the outcome. There is no reason whatsoever to be SO DISGUSTED in what you do. Especially if you are going to continue to do it.

Here is my gimmick. I LOVE driving. I wish that I had started sooner. That is lost time that I could never regain, but I am making the best of what time I have left to do it in. I could not possibly have asked for a better trainer.... I could not have possibly asked for better friends that I have made along the way..... Mostly Duke (my trainer) and Bubba. The two of them have provided for some great "cellular companionship" along the way. Frankly, Bubba has become a close, personal friend that I could not possibly dreamed of.

It's all about how you approach what you do. Do I get tired? Sure. Do I get frustrated? Absolutely. Do I have "bad moments"? No doubt. But am I getting miles? Yep. Do I get a paycheck every week? Uh huh. Am I sleeping in a cardboard box? Nope. Are my bills getting paid? Oh yeah. You know what? There are a lot of drivers out there that can not answer those questions the same way.

I'm a lucky guy.......

Nope, went to CTA. But JCC has probably one of the best programs out there. You will come out of there with something to hold your head high about. JCC has one of the most respected programs out there.

Unfortunately, there stands a fairly good chance that you are going to have to climb in bed with one of the "starter companies" out there once you graduate. But you know what? That is really not a bad thing, depending on your trainer.

Here's the deal Frawg..... You are going to have to pay your dues. There is nothing wrong with getting your feet wet with a starter company. No matter what anyone says, or no matter how many drivers look down their noses at you.... they started somewhere too. The sadness of the whole thing is that most of them forget what hurdles they had to overcome to be where they are today.

You are doing what you want to do. I say.... Good For You!!!! Pay no mind to those who try to "tear you down". Here are two things to keep in mind. First.... you are attending one of the best schools out there. When you graduate, you have bragging rights. Secondly.... you graduate and have trouble finding a place to call home, let me know..... I'll jump in there with ya. Right now.... concentrate on your education. Start thinking about what you want to do (Reefer, Flatbed, Dry Van). You will not be able to or even be considered for specialty hauling so, like I said, pay your dues. The good stuff will come later.

For those of you who think that winter weather is a joke..... I defy you to drive I-55 in Arkansas between Missouri and Memphis. I went through there on Saturday afternoon and man I am here to tell you, that was, hands down, some of the worst road conditions I have EVER SEEN.

Basically, the roads were untouched and the ice had hardened in the hammer lane as well as the granny lane. There was a vehicle breakdown that inadvertantly caused an 18-20 mile back-up. All said and done, it took me 4 hours to drive 86 miles. Also, there is a picture that Duke sent me (he was there during the daylight) of a truck that "didn't make it" posted below.

All in all, drove from Mt Airy to Greeley, CO, then back to Lumberton, NC.
Piece of cake (yeah, right). For what it is worth, I am "quite connected" in the cab of the truck with internet, radar, and listening to others on the CB. I was able to dodge a lot of REALLY BAD WEATHER because I watched the radar and listened (including Road Dog).

Use your brains. Use Technology. Use good COMMON SENSE.

It will blow your mind how much more efficient you will become. Especially when it comes to inclement weather....

Yeah, it was "magical" to say the least.....

I am seriously thinking about sending some information to the Governor and DOT Administrator in Arkansas about the joys and benefits of salt and plowing roads during winter weather scenarios..... "Hey Mike Beebe!!!! Did you not think that it might be a good idea to do ANYTHING?!?!?!!?"
