    Hey Ya'll!!!

For those of you who have been following my other thread, I have every intention of continuing on the same venue. For those of you who haven't, here is a brief summation.

I decided at the age of 45 that I was going to enter the trucking industry. It has been a goal since about the age of 12. Situations prevented it happening until now. I began with Magnum Companies out of Fargo, ND in February of 2009 and have since taken a position with LC. So far, I have logged roughly 85,000 miles with Magnum, and have learned a lot. But the learning curve continues. Fortunately for me, I had an awesome trainer who continues to "nurture me". I couldn't have been luckier.

I'm not there yet, but I am getting ready to start on the 18th with LC Transportation out of Mount Airy, NC. Predominantly (or at least as I am told) they are a Fed Ex carrier, doing a lot of drop-n-hook work, but there are also other supportive loads.

What I can tell you right now from my exposure to the company is that there are some really nice people there. From what I have gathered talking to other drivers, they really care about us (which you're not going to find very often). I will also say something that just impressed the beejesus out of me was, as I was sitting in the lobby in this very comfortable overstuffed leather couch, I noticed a large glass and oak display cabinet containing several plaques and trophies. These were commemorating the outstanding performance LC had provided to their customers AND their community. And then I noticed this little brass plate at the top of the cabinet that read "In Honor of our Drivers" (or something to that effect). Now THAT speaks volumes. Also, everyone who came through the lobby as I sat there greeted me AND asked if I could be helped. And they were smiling.

The gentleman that interviewed me was very nice and accomodating. He, like everyone else I encountered, was quite personable and pleasant. Then I got the "tour". I must say, from what I saw, I was sold. Of course I had to go through the standards.... drug test, physical agility, and so forth, but nothing out of the norm. All in all, it seems, both from what I observed and what I have heard, that LC really has their act together, and I am thrilled to join their team.

Right now I am in the process of getting back to North Carolina from Fargo (and as luck would have it, with my trainer). I begin orientation with LC on Wednesday and should be back in my own truck within a few days. When I do, I'll be starting to post my experiences. Until then, ya'll be safe....

Do they have any terminals other than the headquarters in Mt Airy? That one is about 20 minutes from my house. If you get stuck there for repairs check out my thread and if I'm at home we will go eat somewhere that you can't take a big truck. Do you guys take your tractors home or do they stay at the terminal?

Good luck, and all that other stuff. I'm looking forward to reading your new adventures. Like you I started my second career this year. Little older and a couple of months later. I'm still with my company, Givens out of Chesapeake VA. Very good experience thus far. Like you said if your there to work you'll do well. I've been getting real good miles and home once every 9 days at least most times more often. Well maintained equipment (old but it all works). I like the people I work with too.
It's been a real positive experience for me so far. I like the constant change and have found you get what you give from people, for the most part.

Yeah that would work. I have actually met my wife and son there a couple of times for a meal when a load takes me down I-77 and I don't have time to swing by the house. My thinking was to go someplace big trucks can't. Like maybe my deck with a fire in the fire pit and steaks on the grill.

    Scooter,
As I sit here in Greeley,CO, parked for the night and wondering if we really will get 12" of snow, I thought I'd take the opportunity to say 'Welcome Aboard'! I'm thrilled that you're finally here ;)
